JUST IN: EFF leader Julius Malema has been sentenced to five years imprisonment in the long-running firearms discharge matter. He is also not allowed to possess or handle any firearms as he is now deemed unfit. His legal team intend to appeal the sentence.

In her sentencing, Magistrate Twanet Olivier said "in light of the position he holds, there's a significant amount of responsibility on the accused". She also emphasised that "it is not a political party being convicted here. It is an individual who so happens to be the CIC of a political party...
