I believe that, offline, Davido’s friends praise him as the lion of social media, and this seems to have gotten into his head. It certainly explains these lame clapbacks and his consistently poor choice of punching bags. For someone who has attained his level of success, this is embarrassing to watch. Erigga’s post is in plain English, and it is obviously not an attack on those who came from privileged homes, but a motivation for those who had no such head start and still fought their way up despite the odds stacked against them. You are not the only privileged kid in the industry, but you are obviously the only one insecure enough to hear an insult every time somebody praises those who started with less. I am glad you are being cooked by even your fans, and rightfully so.

But why is Pantami being assessed differently, and attacked more harshly than even less experienced aspirants? There are people with uninspiring credentials and administrative qualifications running for various public offices, some with histories that are hardly praiseworthy, yet none of them is being subjected to this level of obsessive scrutiny.

Most of his critics have no idea who he is running against. They seem interested only in his takedown. Let us at least pretend that we are comparing him with other aspirants and faulting him based on where he ranks, instead of singling him out for exceptional treatment.

I understand the argument that his clerical activities may not align with his political adventure, especially since politics is often seen as a practice of double-speak and dishonesty. But since he is running for political office, we should assess him as a politician and not as a candidate for the Imamate.

Regardless of the outcome we will campaign for the candidates in our party with the precision, honesty and transparency we are known for. My focus is still ensuring justice for our dear father, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai but we will be testing this mic from this week Insha Allah. See you soon.

The calls, messages and encouragement from the people of Apapa over the past few days have been overwhelming. I have heard you clearly.

Maybe the people are finally tired of representatives they only see on campaign posters.

I will be taking consultations seriously in the coming weeks as we listen, engage and explore what true representation for Apapa should look like.

This is not just about politics. It is about visibility, competence, structure and genuine service to our people.
