Right now, pritelivir is being reviewed specifically for immunocompromised patients with refractory/resistant HSV infections. That’s the population studied in the Phase 3 trial and the indication submitted to the FDA.
So if it gets approved at the end of 2026, the first approval will most likely only be for immunocompromised people not the general HSV population.
That said, pritelivir has already shown antiviral activity in immunocompetent patients in earlier studies, including reductions in viral shedding and lesions.
Many people hope that if the launch goes well and safety data continue looking good, the company could later pursue broader approvals for recurrent HSV in immunocompetent individuals. But as of now, there’s no official FDA filing for “everyone” yet.
