SAMRO is saddened by the passing of Brie Lee, a talented South African rapper, singer, and dancer whose artistry helped shape Cape Town’s vibrant Xhosa Wave hip-hop and GosPop music movement.
Born Liyema Ndibi, Brie Lee was celebrated for her vocal versatility, authentic storytelling, and commitment to creating music in isiXhosa. Through her work, she gave voice to local township experiences while exploring themes of identity, spirituality, womanhood, and perseverance. Her contribution to South African music leaves a meaningful legacy that will continue to inspire audiences and emerging artists alike.
SAMRO extends its heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, fans, and all those whose lives were touched by her music and unwavering courage during her battle with osteosarcoma.
