SAMRO is saddened by the passing of Seputla Sebogodi, the legendary South African actor and musician, at the age of 63.
Sebogodi was one of South Africa’s most revered performers, celebrated for a remarkable career spanning more than three decades across theatre, television, and film. Renowned for his versatility, he captivated audiences through memorable roles in productions including Generations and earned two South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) for his outstanding performances.
Beyond the screen and stage, he was also a gifted gospel recording artist, leaving a lasting contribution to South Africa’s music landscape through his recordings and enduring passion for the arts.
SAMRO extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by his extraordinary talent and contribution to the South African creative industry during this difficult time.

Since the launch of the Two-Pot Retirement System, the SAMRO Retirement Annuity Fund (SRAF) has paid out over R2.4 million to music creators.
However, thousands of members are currently missing critical updates and payouts due to outdated contact information. This year alone, more than 2,000 benefit statements were returned undelivered.
