The @SAOofHungary hosts the annual meeting of the INTOSAI Performance Audit Sub-committee on March 24–25.
The two-day event focuses on the tasks outlined in INTOSAI’s Strategic Development Plan for 2023–2028, with an emphasis on improving efficiency and effectiveness, as well as the impact of artificial intelligence on the work of audit institutions.
More than 50 experts participating in the forum share their experience on implementing the new standards and principles related to the development plan, as well as on ways to improve audit performance.

On 19-20 November 2025, the National Audit Office of Malta hosted the annual meeting of the @EUauditors and the presidents of the supreme audit institutions of the #EU Member States. The central theme of the meeting was enhancing the #competitiveness of the European Union, a major strategic challenge for the EU and its Member States, including #SAIs.
Participants worked together to explore how national SAIs can promote innovation and increase competitiveness in the EU and in individual Member States through their #audits.
As the Contact Committee’s mission is to promote the exchange of professional knowledge and experience in auditing EU funds and EU-related issues – areas with strong implications for competitiveness – this year’s meeting was also focusing on auditing EU funds at the national level.
The Congress of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (#INCOSAI) takes place between October 27 and 31, 2025. Held every three years, this event is the most important professional forum for supreme audit institutions (#SAIs). Therefore, SAIs worldwide, including the @SAOofHungary are attending the global event.
Dr. László Windisch, President of @SAOofHungary , presented the 2025 SAO Grand Prizes at a ceremony held to mark the anniversary of the 1956 revolution and war of independence. This year, the SAO Grand Prize was awarded to Mr. @TonyMurphyECA , President of the European Court of Auditors, and Mr. Ferenc Vágujhelyi, Commissioner of the National Tax and Customs Administration.

Between 15 – 17 September 2025, the meeting of the #EU Contact Committee Working Group on #VAT was hosted by the @SAOofHungary . Dr. László Windisch, President of the @SAOofHungary , received Mr. Ivica Gavrilović, the recently appointed President and Auditor General of the State Audit Institution of the Republic of Serbia (#SAI Serbia), at his office on 30 July 2025. During the introductory visit, the two leaders discussed the current challenges faced by the supreme audit institutions and shared their experience in auditing construction projects and the navigability of the Danube. #cooperation #Audit
On 3 June 2025, Dr. László Windisch, President of the State Audit Office of Hungary, attended a high-level conference in Warsaw, organised on the occasion of the Polish Presidency of the European Union. The event focused on the audit of security policy issues.
The event was attended by more than 25 audit institutions at a high level, as well as delegates from international organisations such as INTERPOL and OECD. Participants discussed the most pressing challenges faced by the European Union, including geopolitical tensions, hybrid warfare and critical infrastructure vulnerabilities.
Speakers addressed topics such as the role of SAIs in auditing defence spending and handling security threats. Artificial intelligence and the necessity of cyber defence were also on the agenda. Furthermore, participants discussed the audit of defence, security and institutional preparedness, sharing experience of both EU and national levels.
On 15 and 16 May 2025, the #SAIs of the Visegrad Group as well as Austria and Slovenia (V4+2 Group) held their annual meeting in Győr and Pannonhalma, led by Dr. László Windisch, President of the State Audit Office of Hungary.
The supreme audit institutions of the participating countries – Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia – meet annually to discuss matters of common interest at executive management level. The agenda of this year’s meeting allowed for a comprehensive discussion of six different professional topics. On the first day, participants engaged in an active exchange of views in the field of parliamentary relations and redress procedures, the audit of the use of EU funds, data use practices and the financial dimensions of SAIs’ independence.
On the second day, the presidents and their experts reviewed the entire audit processes of the participating SAIs from the selection of the audit topic to the drafting of the report. They also discussed the impact and outcome of the activities of the audit institutions and finally shared their ideas on the different models and organisational solutions. The next V4+2 meeting will take place in 2026 in Slovenia.
The OECD organised a high-level event in Paris on 28-29 January 2025. The main topics of the conference included performance auditing, audits on sustainability issues and empowering public understanding. The SAO was represented at the conference by its President, Dr. László Windisch.
The international conference organised by OECD was attended by SAIs from more than 30 countries, including delegations from the SAIs of Brazil, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Portugal and the USA. The heads of SAIs attending the event focused on how SAIs can contribute to fiscal and environmental sustainability.
Several speakers reported that performance auditing and spending reviews are key elements in their work to find appropriate responses to current economic challenges. Other supreme audit institutions are striving to ensure that the impact of decisions is communicated to society in a transparent and understandable way through a continuous and systematic multi-channel communication to the public. Participants agreed that the use of artificial intelligence both during audits and when informing citizens could be a major step forward in the work of SAIs.
Vice-President Dr. Csaba Szomolai represented the @SAOofHungary at the ceremony held on 8-9 December 2024 in Brdo to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Court of Audit of the Republic of Slovenia (@racunskosodisce ).
The State Audit Office of North Macedonia held its 25th anniversary celebrations in Skopje from 26 to 27 November 2024. Dr. Monika Karas, Vice-President of the @SAOofHungary , represented the #SAO at the event.
On 26 November 2024, Dr. László Windisch, President of the @SAOofHungary welcomed Mehriddin Abdullayev, First Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and his delegation at his Office. The Hungarian and Uzbek #SAIs concluded a Memorandum of Understanding document on sharing methodological and technological knowledge to support the development of public #auditing.
