@TonsOfFun111 Welcome back! I hope the trip was refreshing. Wishing you bring back lots of positive energy, exciting AI ideas, and great news for all of us.
#RubyKaigi day 1 kicking off!! ✨
Come see my talk at 11:30 this morning at Subarena #RubyKaigiB.
I may have gone overboard on demos, wish me luck… (at least one of the four should work as long as I don’t break anything before then 🤞)
And it is out! New https://t.co/XQ8iRPIqI3 and the devtools PMF Compass methodology to help our customers and the entire devtools community grow, reach sustainable PMF and succeed! https://t.co/598IataWYU
🚀 Rails hasn’t had much AI tooling… until now.
Introducing Active Agent 0.2—a production-ready release candidate to build AI apps in Rails in a way that FEELS like Rails. 🙌
With less than 10 lines of code, you can:
🕵️♂️ Define AI agents that take prompts & perform actions
🤖 Interact with AI services for text, images, speech-to-text, & more
✨ Render generative UI with action prompts & view templates
⚙️ Scale with async jobs & streaming
I’ve been a Rubyist for 17+ years and spent a decade building AI products in Python.
Every time I worked in Python, I missed the developer experience of Ruby & Rails.
Rails is still the fastest way to build & ship products. So why can’t it be the BEST framework for AI?
The problem has never been the language or framework—it’s the lack of AI tooling. With Active Agent, I plan to fix that.
My mission is to create the open source tools we need for Rails to be competitive with Python’s agent package ecosystem and Next JS’s AI SDKs.
What’s new in 0.2:
📝 Plain text for prompt & response templates
🧰 JSON schema templates for AI tools
👩💻 HTML for generative UI
Get involved:

Let’s bring Rails into the future of AI. 🚀
Doing something different for this time of year…
Instead of offering discounts, I’m going to be raising my agency rates for certain services.
(And adding new packages.)
After having conversations with partners and contractors and evaluating the market, I realized that there are certain things I can’t offer at their current rates.
To be more sustainable in 2025 and continue offering boutique, high-touch services, I’m going to have to make some pricing tweaks.
I will honor current pricing associated with promos through the end of the year (such as my RubyConf promos — https://t.co/l7Sw2ImqSI)
But as of next week, you’ll notice changes on my general services page. Including some exciting new things!
If you’ve been wanting to work together and want to get in at my current rates, shoot me a message and I’m happy to have a conversation about what we can make work.
Note: My minimum for fractional services will be staying the same for now and I have space for two more fractional clients.
https://t.co/zQT4ECCmO2 quick update:
It’s been a crazy month or so as I’ve worked to get a release ready, while also balancing unexpected family and personal things that came up. I appreciate the community’s patience and the eagerness to see this live!
I’m working on finalizing a release candidate as I travel to Chicago for RubyConf.
I will also be hosting an AI meetup / pre-party in Chicago on Tuesday at 9pm (details to follow!)
Stay tuned and expect an email from me soon.
Sea Foam Media is an OFFICIAL sponsor of @RubyConf 2024 in Chicago! 🙌
Will be dropping info on special offers & discounts for attendees! Watch this space... 💎
About to take off for #RubyConf2022 and was reminded that I never shared my #Railsconf2022 Star Trek themed talk on applied queuing theory for scaling Rails apps. I’m excited to get another chance to get on stage and share some ideas tomorrow!
