People living with HIV are still too often shunned, denied jobs, refused care, or excluded by their own families; not because of any real risk to others, but because of outdated fear. That doctor’s kiss was a direct answer to the panic of the early epidemic. Today, someone can be on effective treatment and have an undetectable viral load, meaning they cannot transmit the virus sexually at all (U=U: Undetectable = Untransmittable). Discrimination doesn’t just hurt feelings; it stops people from testing, disclosing, or seeking treatment, which makes public health outcomes worse for everyone.

How HIV is actually transmitted:
1. Unprotected vaginal or anal sex
2. ⁠Sharing needles or syringes
3. ⁠Mother to child during pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding (without treatment)
4. ⁠Blood transfusions with unscreened blood (now extremely rare due to screening)

HIV is NOT spread by:
1. Kissing, hugging, or casual touch
2. ⁠Sharing food, drinks, or utensils
3. ⁠Toilet seats, swimming pools, or mosquito bites
4. ⁠Coughing or sneezing

Prevention:

When I was in the North, I heard about something and I am still trying to believe how it happened.

A man didn’t know his wife was HIV Positive until the woman traveled and he was about to clean the house after a while. In the process, he saw some hidden medications and decided to ask from a medical practitioner what those medications were meant for and he discovered that they are for HIV patient.

He did test and he was negative. He was told the test would be carried out again after few months which was conducted and he was still negative. His wife got back during this period but he never mentioned it until he was completely cleared by a doctor.

My question is, how’s it possible to be sleeping with someone with HIV and not get it? Is there any explanation to that?
