Generally, a wax-sealed letter of explanation written in cursive is not necessary in these circumstances. Rather, a few words should suffice

Always be on the lookout for these signs, & be prepared to acknowledge your error (“Oops, that was random”) & backtrack to explain.

If you make too big a leap from the thread, people often look confused, raising their eyebrows/scrunching their face:

To make the connection clear, you have to use words to state your thoughts out loud & show people how you got to the new topic.

You can’t start talking about a new topic & assume that the connection will be clear to others just because it makes sense in your head.
