Some swimmers asked for cliff notes from tonight's talk about #taperszn and #mentalhealth preparation before Y States.
The "Big 3" before any championship: Trust. Believe. Will to win.
Focus on...
Excitement over Anxiety
Courage over Uncertainty
Belief over Doubt
“Base training is like putting money in the bank. Sharpening is like taking out the accumulated interest when done well. When done poorly, it's like draining one’s financial reserves.”
The key features of base training:
1. It can be improved continuously over many years
2. Improvements develop slowly
3. Its effects are long lasting — they’re not easily destroyed
4. It tends to be lower injury risk
The key features of sharpening:
1. Its effects are short-lived; retaining the enhanced performance for more than three months is challenging
2. The enhancements happen quickly — improvements can be seen in just 6-weeks
3. Because of the faster pace, injury and illness risk increase
4. If continued too long, it can lead to a slump

We are thrilled to share that tomorrow, October 20, at 8 a.m. the Summit YMCA will fully reopen, and our staff will be ready to welcome you back inside our transformed facility. Can't wait to see you there! #summitYMCA#theSAY#summitNJ#summitareaymca#ymca#renovation
Reminder! Team Apparel pick up today from 4:15-7:15pm Hurst Pool observation deck. Any swimmer who will not be attending practice should ask a friend to grab their order. Any order not picked up will be returned to California Beach Hut and will need to be picked up there.
"Dreams without goals are just dreams. And ultimately, they fuel disappointment. On the road, to achieving your dreams, you must apply discipline but more importantly, consistency because without commitment you'll never start, but without consistency, you'll never finish." -D.W.
