Vaccination/Immunisation is vital !
Access to vaccines should not be a privilege - but a basic right!
Good luck @RobynPorteous - trusting all goes well and your little angel has few side effects!
#Vaccinessavelives
Very aware as I prepare to take my 6 week old for vaccinations that it is a privilege to do so. And that even if we have a tough night because of it, it is a privilege to do so. Too many in the world lack access to healthcare; too many have been robbed of the chance to grow up.
Even 1 infected visitor could spread the disease to other countries - hence our efforts in South Africa to maintain high vaccination levels for protection.

Drop to zero: The global mission to eradicate polio
Wild-type (or wild) polio refers to the naturally occurring strains of the polio virus. It is a highly infectious disease that mostly affects children under 5 years old.
Wild-type polio has is targeted for global eradication (like we did with smallpox). The last case of wild-type polio in South Africa was reported in 1989. Unfortunately, countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan still have circulating wild-type polio virus.
For community immunity, percentage of population that needs to be vaccinated:
•Measles: 90-95%
•Whooping cough (pertussis): 92-95%
•Mumps: 88-92%
•Diphtheria: 80%
•Rubella: 80-85%
#WorldImmunisationWeek#GetVaccinated#CommunityImmunity
Immunity together. Community forever.
When people in a community are vaccinated against an infectious disease e.g. measles, whooping cough, mumps, diphtheria and flu, it becomes much less likely to spread from person to person.
The percentage of a population that needs to be vaccinated against an infectious disease to provide community immunity depends on how contagious the disease is, how effective the vaccine is, immunity gained from previous infections, population density, social mixing etc.
