In #JACCHF Position Statement, @AdityaMehtaMD, @PalakShahMD et al highlight diagnostic & therapeutic approaches to AMR, the leading cause of graft failure and mortality after heart transplantation.

Exciting times in heart transplantation! Great editorial and excellent collection of articles reviewing ex-situ machine perfusion and its applications in heart transplantation including ex-situ biological modification followed by allo- or auto-transplant!

UMD ❤️ Fellows and Faculty at IXA (International Xenotransplantation Association) Conference in ☀️San Diego this weekend. Congrats to @csoar14 (3rd Yr), Oneib Khan (2nd Yr) and Drs. Hong-Zohlman, Dickfeld, and Ananthram on their important work!
As I begin my tenure as Chair @MSU_Medicine at @MSUMD@michiganstateu, I am so thankful to have been leader at @UM_Cardiology at @UMmedschool@UMBaltimore @UMMC! We @UM_Cardiology are small (<20 FTEs), but clinically, we drawrf all other DOM divisions, generating ~36% of clinical revenues, more than 11 SOM departments! Academically, we’ve won school wide teaching awards, pioneered movement toward critical care cardiology, discovered #1 & #2 causes of familiar dilated cardiomyopathy, provided epi basis for earlier prevention by decades, revealed mechanism by which air pollutants cause cardiometabolic diseases, found link b/t severe COVID19 & low HDL, identified best noninvasive measure of #xenotransplantation status, & discovered that impaired centrosome breakdown causes infantile dilated cardiomyopathy. Kind of AMAZING! @msuhealthcare@HenryFordHealth@CorewellHealth@McLarenHealth@SparrowHealth
🫀A New Era in Heart Transplantation
Manish Patel, MD & @IsmaelSalasMD utilized the only FDA-approved technology for #organtransplants revolutionizing donor #heart preservation. This device mimics a living heart's state & expands our donor pool. @UTHealthHouston@memorialhermann
With the goal of mitigating late hemodynamic related events (HDRE), I am excited to share our new classification system which quantifies the net hemodynamic burden of long term VAD support.

🚨 First (of many!) publication from @KiranKhush1's Donor Heart Study:
1⃣~ 60% of donor 🫀 with ⬇️EF were reversible within a day‼️
2⃣Donor 🫀 ⬇️ EF was not assoc with 1 yr survival‼️
Huge implications for the field‼️
@CircAHA@ISHLT@tcccop@StanfordCTSurg@HFSA@YasMoayedi
Proud to present results of the Donor Heart Study! Of 4,333 brain dead donors, 13% had LV dysfunction. This was usually reversible and had no impact on heart tx recipient survival. Another reason to #StartWithYes https://t.co/HKbMA1qYOu

Lessons Learned from World’s First Successful Transplant of Genetically-Modified Pig Heart into Human Patient: UM School of Medicine Researchers Detail Inflammatory Process & Heart Damage in Lancet Study in Preparation for Future Transplants https://t.co/D3VUflq5lL
Excited to introduce the next frontier of durable support. We have made tremendous strides mitigating hemocompatibility related adverse events (HRAE) after LVAD implantation. It's time for us to renew our focus and address the hemodynamic-related events (HDRE) of Al and RHF.
There is still time to register and attend our @NYPCUCVI Heart Transplant Summit this Friday 6/23
