Vegetation Fire: US Highway 101 northbound at Naples.
Santa Barbara County Fire responded to a roadside vegetation fire estimated at approximately 1/4 acre. Four engines and one battalion chief responded to the incident. Forward progress was stopped at 6:23 p.m., and crews remain on scene conducting mop-up operations.
No structures were threatened. Cause is under investigation. CT 5:57 pm
Update: @sbcfireinfo crews responded to Nojoqui Falls in Goleta regarding a hiker in need of medical assistance. The patient, a 60-year-old female, sustained minor injuries from a mechanical slip and fall. She has been safely transported via ground ambulance to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital.
We appreciate the quick response of our personnel. The area is now clear.

Vehicle Rollover: Southbound Hwy 101 near Refugio State Beach Rd.
A truck overturned and came to rest on the railroad tracks.
Crews are working to remove the vehicle. No injuries have been reported. Railroad tracks in the area are temporarily closed.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, as wet weather is in the forecast and roads may be slick.

Animal rescue: 1700 block of San Marcos Pass Rd. A horse fell into a ditch and was at risk of falling into a creek. Santa Barbara County Fire responded, and Santa Barbara City Fire assisted in the incident. The horse’s veterinarian sedated the horse, allowing crews to safely rescue and return it to stable ground. The horse was not injured. CT 6:58 p.m.
Vehicle rollover: NB HWY 135, just north of South Y. Solo vehicle incident, two occupants, both major injuries and transported to hospital. NB 135 closed. SB only one lane open. Contact CHP for road information. CT 4:42 pm
Foothill Fire Update (5/22/26 at 7:00 p.m.):
The Foothill Fire remains 904 acres and is now 90% contained.
The Evacuation Warning has been CANCELLED for areas north of Big Pine Mountain, east of Perkins Road, west of the Cuyama River, and south of Cuyama Valley.
Firefighters continue mop-up operations and monitoring for remaining heat within the fire perimeter.
Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and remain aware of changing conditions.

The Foothill Fire remains 904 acres and is now 85% contained.
Firefighters continue aggressive mop-up operations and are strengthening containment lines throughout the incident. Crews are also monitoring remaining heat signatures within the fire perimeter to ensure hotspots are fully extinguished.
Personnel assigned to the incident has been reduced as progress continues.
Thank you to all assisting agencies and firefighters for their continued hard work and dedication throughout this incident.
