Thanks for an incredible season, @UConnSoftball. We *finally* took the next leap forward by making it back to the NCAA tournament.
I’m going to miss this year’s seniors dearly, but we have SO MUCH talent returning next season.
This isn’t the ceiling. It’s the new floor.
Today’s game overlapped with the end of a crazy workday for me, but I caught most of it. The result was, of course, disappointing but I appreciated the way we battled. It felt like we were only a few swings from making it a completely different game.
Tomorrow is a new day.
Rough going for UConn pitching so far, but we knew Nebraska’s offense was legit. We’ve stranded too many runners through the first 3 innings. If we’d pushed a few of those across the plate, things would feel a lot better right now.
IT’S NCAA TOURNAMENT GAMEDAY! @UConnSoftball takes on Nebraska in the first game of regional play at 3 p.m. in Baton Rouge. Live broadcast is on ESPN+.
Expect a high-scoring game between two of the nation’s most potent offenses.
If UConn comes out swinging in Game 1, I could see us beating Nebraska.
LSU is a tougher ask.
I *think* LSU will start their freshman Jayden Heavener in Game 1, which means we’d get their ace Sydney Berzon. Both are scary good, but Heavener is just a little more vulnerable.
First look at @UConnSoftball’s regional:
🥎 Nebraska is one of only 11 teams averaging more runs per game than UConn.
🥎 SE Louisiana and LSU are both top 20 nationally in limiting runs per game.
🥎 Expect UConn-Neb to be a shootout, LSU-SE Louisiana to be a pitchers’ duel.
SE Louisiana’s pitching is legit — allowing just 2.5 runs per game — but they haven’t faced an offense like ours since losing to FSU in February.
They’re also one of the country’s luckiest teams, ranking No. 2 in opponents’ errors per game.
I suspect that won’t continue…
