A Lifetime of Faithfulness begins with an education that is Trusted for Truth. President: R. Albert Mohler Jr. (@albertmohler).

What a night of singing with Keith and Kristyn Getty. 🎶

Alumni Chapel was packed as the Gettys led us in hymns old and new, pausing to share the story and theology behind them. Our students sang with them in the choir, and Keith joined us in the bookstore for a conversation on singing in the life of the church.

We’re grateful for Keith and Kristyn and for their faithful work over many years to help the church sing the depth and richness of biblical truth.

“Who is like the Lord God Almighty?”

"Steadfastness means I'm not going to be moved."
ㅤ
In today's chapel, President R. Albert Mohler Jr. preached from 2 Timothy 3 on Paul's charge to Timothy to follow his example of steadfastness in ministry.
ㅤ
Paul stayed at his post when giving up would have been easier, because he loved that church. Faithful ministry stands firm out of love for the people Christ has called us to serve.

Beginning in Fall 2027, every concentration in Southern Seminary’s PhD program will be offered in a modular format.

As Dr. Mohler explains, this change comes straight from Southern’s founding vision. From the beginning, the seminary has aimed to offer the highest level of theological scholarship in service of the church, and to make that scholarship as accessible as possible. The modular PhD lets us do both. A pastor can come to campus, complete two seminars in a single week, and be home to preach on Sunday. A student preparing for the classroom pursues the same degree, under the same standard, for the same purpose: to strengthen the church.

The church deserves the very best, and that includes pastors and scholars who have received the very best theological training. See the link in the caption for the full announcement.

[Southern Seminary @SBTS]

Sometimes the most faithful way to communicate a hard decision is simply to tell the truth.

When a pastor knows it’s time to leave a church, there’s no perfect way to make the announcement. People may feel hurt, confused, or even wonder why they weren’t enough. Dr. York encourages pastors to resist the temptation to over-explain or try to control how people respond. Be clear about where the Lord is leading you.

Can you mark the chapters of your life by the pastors you sat under?

For Pastor Appreciation Month, Dr. Andrew T. Walker, dean of the School of Theology, reflects on what pastors are doing week after week, often without realizing it. One sermon rarely changes a life. Hundreds of sermons, preached faithfully over years, shape a congregation to see the world as a redeemed people.

Pastors, your faithfulness Sunday after Sunday matters more than you know.

Honor the pastor you sit under: use the link in comments to nominate him for a chance to win a Southern Seminary faculty library.

"Whatever storm you're in, He cares."
ㅤ
In today's chapel, Pastor Bruce Chesser, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, preached from Matthew 8:23–27 on Jesus calming the storm on the Sea of Galilee.
ㅤ
The storm came while Jesus was in the boat with His disciples. Christ has authority over every storm, and He is just as able to quiet our hearts as He is to quiet the sea.

We were glad to welcome our Board of Trustees to campus this week for their fall meeting.

Over two days, trustees heard Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr. trace nearly 170 years of God’s faithfulness to Southern Seminary, from our founding in 1859 to a current headcount of more than 5,800 students across Boyce College and the seminary. They received a strong financial report, welcomed eight new trustees at their first meeting, and were reminded, from 2 Timothy 1:6, of our calling to fan into flame the gift of God in those called to ministry.

Thank you, trustees, for your faithful service and for helping us steward the glory and the gravity of what God has entrusted to us.

The Path to the Pulpit: Four Ancient Questions for Faithful Preaching by Andrew Hébert and Mitchell L. Chase is available now!

Faithful preaching begins with faithful interpretation of God’s Word. In The Path to the Pulpit, Andrew Hébert and Mitchell L. Chase draw from the rich history of Christian interpretation to offer pastors and ministers a practical framework for sermon preparation. The authors guide preachers through four essential questions: What does the text say? How does it connect to the gospel and exalt Christ? How does it shape me as a disciple? How does it stir hope for the future? By asking these questions, preachers can better understand the meaning of Scripture, see its connection to Christ, apply it to their own lives and congregations, and proclaim the hope found in God’s promises. This book offers a time-tested path from the biblical text to faithful proclamation.

The hardest counseling conversations in the church rarely happen on a stage. They happen in a pastor’s office, a hospital room, a kitchen table.
ㅤ
This past week, men who carry those conversations every week came to campus for the Pastoral Counseling Workshop: three days of biblical teaching, honest conversation, shared meals, and time to slow down with fellow pastors who understand the work.
ㅤ
Thank you to Dr. Matthew Haste, Dr. John Henderson, Dr. Robert Jones, Dr. Jeremy Pierre, and Dr. Colin McCulloch for pouring into these men, and to every pastor who set aside time away from his church to be here.
ㅤ
We’re praying they return home better equipped, more refreshed, and ready to walk with their people through life’s hardest seasons.

"Shepherd the flock of God that is among you." (1 Peter 5:2)

For Pastor Appreciation Month, Dr. Jeremy Pierre, dean of the Billy Graham School, reflects on two small words in Peter's charge to pastors: "of God." The people a pastor shepherds are not ordinary sheep. They are divine property, God's own people, and the pastor who cares for them with humble, attentive oversight will receive a reward far beyond what he can imagine.

Pastors, the work that feels ordinary to you is precious to God.

"Our faith is either going to rest in the wisdom of men or in the power of God."
ㅤ
In today's chapel, President R. Albert Mohler Jr. preached from 1 Corinthians 2 on the message of the cross, which sounds like foolishness to human wisdom but is the power of God for salvation.
ㅤ
Our problem is sin, and God's remedy is the cross. We sing it gladly, but we must never forget how it sounds to a world hoping for something else. The message of the cross is all we have, and it is enough.

[Southern Seminary @SBTS]

“What is preaching? It’s theology on fire.”
ㅤ
Today in chapel, we celebrated the life and ministry of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, who preached for thirty years from the pulpit of Westminster Chapel in London and called a generation of preachers back to the faithful exposition of God’s Word.
ㅤ
Unlike Luther, Calvin, or Spurgeon, we can still hear Lloyd-Jones preach. We’re grateful to the MLJ Trust for preserving his sermons and making them available to the church, and for partnering with and for partnering with us to help a new generation of preachers keep learning from his ministry.

The Islam and the West trilogy by Dr. A. S. Ibrahim is available now!

In this three-volume series, Dr. Ibrahim examines the rise and reach of political Islam across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Drawing from primary sources, Islamic texts, and contemporary events, Ibrahim distinguishes political Islam as an ideology from Islam as a faith while exploring its influence on public life, institutions, governance, and foreign policy. Together, these volumes provide a historical and contemporary examination of one of the defining questions shaping the relationship between Islam and the West.
