UPDATE: Sheriff's Department spokesperson said Glen Helen's vocational programs and work release program will not be affected, and its 303 inmates will be transferred to jails countywide, including the HDDC.
The Sheriff's Department has not yet said when Glen Helen will close, how the closure will affect the jail's vocational programs and work release program, nor how many inmates are currently housed at the jail and will be transferred.
The closure of the jail, according to a Sheriff's Department, was prompted in July, when the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved the last phase of the three-phase High Desert Detention Center, which will add 353 beds.
BREAKING: The Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center in Devore will temporarily close, its inmates transferred and its staff reassigned to the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto while the aging jail undergoes renovations, according to the Sheriff's Department.
