Schalke are a giant of German football and are back in the Bundesliga, where they belong.
But that won’t last long unless they can figure out why they can’t seem to score any goals this season.

Marco Grüll has gone from a back-up jack of all trades to Werder Bremen’s most potent attacking player this season.
Here’s how Bremen finally got the very best out of their Austrian winger.

Interesting analysis from @TMuk_news on the value of squads and players.
Rangers have significant assets in the market despite recent criticism of the recruitment process.
Of course, it now has to be seen on the park. That is the where the true value is.

Huge decision from the Premier League. We’ll have to see what becomes of the inevitably appeal, but this feels like the league drawing a line in the sand. Not only a condemnation of Man City’s past; but also what other clubs may be planning in the future.
@jonnyrmcfarlane@danohagan They’re petrified of being irrelevant. But it’s not entirely their fault. If they cover niche topics and nobody watches/reads them then it becomes something for right-wing governments to criticise them.
They either get eyeballs and survive. Or do the “right thing” and die.
There’s no long-term transfer strategy at Celtic, aside from scouting & flipping players from the PL. No youth development programme. No attempt to reach new heights in Europe. It’s a club that’s been happy to pat itself on the back for winning a one-horse race every season.
Celtic have now won just one of their last 11 games against Rangers in normal time in all competitions.
Which is utterly remarkable considering that Rangers only returned to the Scottish Premiership 10 years ago.
That’s partly due to Rangers spending a lot of money. And Hearts doing so well last season. But it’s mostly down to Celtic as a club just showing no real ambition to improve over the last 10 years.
As all my followers (hopefully) know, I write a weekly newsletter on the Bundesliga for the Gegenpressing Podcast.
I'll use this space to keep tabs on them throughout the season 🇩🇪✍️
If you’re worried about money buying up all the success in football, just remember that Chelsea have spent €536m on defenders in the last five seasons - €165m more than the next club - and have conceded 15 goals in their first seven games of the season.
