With the poor living conditions, the well-being of the 14 children Mary was taking care of deteriorated. She almost lost one of her grandchildren to malnutrition.

But after receiving treatment in one of @eu_echo funded primary healthcare centres, the child survived.

In her new place after displacement, Mary received training and set up a beautiful yielding kitchen garden in her home.

She is harvesting vegetables now to support the diet of her family. They eat and sell part of the harvest to sustain their living.

We're proud of our colleagues in #SouthSudan.

Since 2021 with @eu_echo support, they've helped over 600 mothers like Mary to improve the livelihoods & nutrition of over 3,000 children.

Their work has helped to reduce cases of acute malnutrition in Abyei's children by 60%.

Meet Mary, 58, who, like many other families in the area, had to flee her home & seek safety in a nearby village.

During the recent conflict in Abyei, Mary’s house was destroyed and she lost her livelihood, having nothing left to sustain her family.
