If you've been stuck in a shared ownership for over 10 years, you should be advised by your HO here is a lowered cost to complete ownership, subsided by them who have taken maximum charges.

@SharedOwnersNet Useless con artists Housing Association nor Conveyancer warned me about short lease on SO property and the reality that the HA would put up charges arbitrarily. Of course the HA doesn't want to know when you've got a problem with antisocial behaviour. It's ALL take and glossy ads

@katiejnwilliams please broaden scope of your article. the whole leasehold system is broken which is acknowledged by gov, but as usual powerful orgs are lobbying to stop it going through for years so they can milk it for all it's worth.

@BySamMeadows yep, sold a false hope of stability and opportunity to move on up, it's been known for many years there is a small percentage who staircase. The "charitable" Housing Associations make it as difficult and costly as they can for you to get their support, & they keep expanding.

@helenakelly__ On this issue as someone who "owns" one property that is being screwed over by leasehold, not sure I want to hear from people fronting TV shows, who have done their bit to normalise anyone that can, holding portfolios of flats.

@helenakelly__ great that you are shedding light on issue, but why only young homeowners? people in their 30's & 40's took the shared ownership option cos it was the only affordable option & was seen as better than private renting but are victims of the ridiculous falsehood of "ownership"
