She moved into someone else’s Jacksonville, Florida home… then refused to leave until she got back “rent” she never paid to the actual owner.

Homeowner Patty Peoples discovered 22-year-old Janana Jacobs and her girlfriend occupying her property after they allegedly removed the lockbox and got inside.

Jacobs claimed SHE had been scammed—saying she paid $3,100 to a supposed landlord named “Christopher Cross” and wanted that money returned before leaving.

Then police started asking for the lease, emails and proof of payment.

That’s when this story takes a turn.

Peoples eventually regained possession of the Jacksonville home, but reports say the occupants had been there for roughly a month and left behind about $38,000 in damage.

Jacobs was later reportedly arrested and faced charges including fraud, criminal mischief and trespassing.

Imagine having to fight to regain possession of a house YOU own.

This case helped expose just how badly Florida’s squatting laws needed to change.
