🧠Delirium is a common and serious complication in critically ill patients, linked to higher mortality, prolonged hospital stays, and long-term cognitive impairment. Montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist widely used for respiratory conditions, has been associated with neuropsychiatric side effects, including delirium. However, data on its safety in critically ill adults remains limited.

We are pleased Saudi Critical Care Phamacy Research (@SCAPE_Platform ) and Saudi Society for Multidisciplinary Research Development and Education (@Scape_Society ) to share the findings of our cohort study titled “Montelukast and Delirium Risk During Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Stay: Findings from a Cohort Study.”

Our study aimed to evaluate the association between montelukast use during ICU admission and the development of delirium, while further assessing its overall safety in this vulnerable population. Our results show a significant association between montelukast exposure during ICU stay and an 🔺increased incidence of delirium. Prospective randomized controlled trials are warranted to confirm these findings and better define the risk-benefit profile of montelukast in critically ill patients.

We are pleased to share one of our published case reports titled:

“Successful treatment of methicillin-resistant Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus osteomyelitis and persistent bacteremia using adjunctive Ceftaroline fosamil to Vancomycin: A case report.”

This case report describes the successful management of a complex MRSA osteomyelitis with persistent bacteremia, where adjunctive ceftaroline fosamil was used in combination with vancomycin, resulting in favorable clinical and microbiological outcomes.

The findings highlight the potential value of combination antimicrobial therapy in difficult-to-treat resistant infections and its relevance to clinical decision-making.
