@SCIIEQCC staff are deeply engaged in implementing best practices. Our tools also facilitate effective goal setting and evaluation of goal attainment before and after a therapeutic outing.
@SCIIEQCC has worked to align the methods and definitions of fever for patients with #SpinalCordInjury including those with inability to regulate core body temperature and a low baseline body temperature.
Pressure injuries impact the quality of life, morbidity and mortality of patients with #SpinalCordInjury. In 2023, @SCIIEQCC reduced the rate of patients with open wounds at discharge to 24%, down from 29% in 2022.
Did you know that a single pressure injury increases the mean cost of hospital length of stay by 9,580 CAD? @SCIIEQCC promoted implementation of daily head-to-toe skin checks.
Wheelchair skills enable independence, community integration, and safety for patients with SCI/D. In 2023, @SCIIEQCC's routine wheelchair skills assessments led to 5 hours of training for those at SWAT stage 2A and lower!
Return to walking is a priority among people with #SpinalCordInjury. @SCIIEQCC collected walking outcome assessments. This figure shows the increasing proportion of patients who improved enough with rehab to become independent in walking with/without a gait aid outside their home.
To help facilitate sexual health discussions and education with patients, @SCIIEQCC has developed updated sexual health materials that are now more gender inclusive, available in multiple languages, and feature new resources focusing on women’s health gaps.
@SCIIEQCC aims to enable clinicians to have open discussions with people with #SpinalCordInjury about sexual health. Since 2020, we increased staff’s sexual health knowledge by 10% and provided access to a variety of online and in-person resources for continued learning.
@SCIIEQCC is dedicated to equipping staff with the resources and training needed to support patients' emotional wellbeing (EWB). This year, 67% of staff reported having adequate skills for EWB service provision, an important increase from 44% last year.
Early treatment of emotional wellbeing is important for patients in spinal cord injury rehab. @SCIIEQCC worked to implement routine screenings for depression and anxiety at admission and discharge, helping to identify and manage those at risk.
