The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the KCFD over allegations of racial discrimination within the fire department, according to The Star. Black firefighters were interviewed about racism and their complaints of a hostile work environment at the department.
68 years ago today (8 years to the day before the #MarchOnWashington and my father’s #IHaveADream speech), #EmmettTill was tortured and murdered in a brutal act of white supremacist terrorism. The horrific murder of Emmett Till further galvanized the Civil Rights Movement. #MLK
White supremacy still manifests structurally within institutions of higher education & in most spectrums of society. The Supreme Court is morally bankrupt & intellectually blinded by staunch opposition to Black equity & freedom, whether in the voting booth or higher education.
Re: todays Supreme Court decision: Affirmative Action is a reparative and corrective measures to right historic and current day wrongs.
Affirmative Action is not racism. Affirmative Action is a measure which has been effective in combatting systemic and structural racism.
To strike Affirmative Action as unlawful is a racist act because it denies the continued presence of severe disparities negatively impacting Blacks in higher education and rejects the moral responsibility of institutions to be anti-racist.
The organizations said in a statement the Attorney General’s role is to act as a supporter of local prosecutors and protect citizens from fraudulent companies, not to "usurp the authority" of local prosecutors. https://t.co/vEFHevOXJx
Thx @KCStar for quoting our @DRVPHOWARDJR: “Cameron Lamb’s human, civil rights are being betrayed.”
Missouri AG seeks to throw out Kansas City cop’s conviction in killing of Black man

Just when I think it can’t get any worse. The AG in Mo filed a embarrassing pretend brief to REVERSE a conviction. An unarmed black man was shot by a police officer, they staged the scene to plant a gun …he was convicted by judge(his request for judge trial). 🧵
An appeals court judge allowed the Jackson County prosecutor to file an amicus brief Friday in the appeal of former KCPD Det. Eric DeValkenaere’s conviction for killing Cameron Lamb: https://t.co/ZHJrtEwbWG
That the Missouri governor is even thinking of subverting justice for the only Kansas City police officer ever found guilty of killing a Black man is shocking. https://t.co/2EKZkBiTIC
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker on Tuesday made public a letter urging Missouri Gov. Mike Parson not to pardon a former Kansas City police detective who was convicted of killing a Black man.

BREAKING: Jackson County Prosecutor @jeanpetersbaker says Missouri Gov. Mike Parson is considering a pardon for Eric DeValkenaere, the only white police officer ever convicted in KC for shooting a Black man.
#BREAKING@jeanpetersbaker says numerous reports suggest Governor Mike Parson plans to pardon former Kansas City Detective Eric Devalkenaere. Devalkenaere is out on bond while waiting for his appeal. He was convicted of killing Cameron Lamb in 2019. @fox4kc
This is beyond outrageous. The defendant asked for a judge tried case. He was convicted (evidence included that a gun and bullet were planted on the victim by the police officer) The AG should do his job or resign. It is the law. What the hell?? 🧵

Missourians deserve to know why their unelected attorney general is ignoring lawful orders and keeping a convicted killer walking free. https://t.co/2JU7vikw14
