My colleagues & I worked 3 years to unionize and reach a contract w/the Southern California News Group, which owns the Orange County Register, where I'm based, LA Daily News, and 9 more newspapers. Today we signed our 1st contract. To quote Martha Stewart, 'It's a good thing.'
I'm so proud of all of my colleagues who worked tirelessly for years to achieve this. It isn't perfect, but being able to lift our veteran journalists making under 50k to that salary base along with the new(er) reporters starting their careers, is a victory worth celebrating!
So proud of my colleagues who fought hard for more than two years for a strong contract that includes better worker protections. ✊🏽 #WeHaveAContract !!!
We’re on strike at the New York Times. No playing Wordle, the crossword or any of the games. Stand with @NYTGuildTech in demanding a fair first contract! https://t.co/fJM6iwL81W
Today, 400+ supporters showed out in solidarity w/ @NYTGuildTech workers to demand a fair contract after over two years of bargaining!
Management’s stalling threatens a potential strike on Election Day—a crucial day for coverage—as these tech workers run NYT’s digital ecosystem.
"We want to see a presence of local media be something that’s long-term and not something that’s just going to get ... sold when it’s no longer valuable to a hedge fund." -@CharlieVargas19@SCNGguild may have its first contract after years of bargaining: https://t.co/RNP5PFgNS5
This TA isn’t perfect, but we’ve come a long way since we unionized three years ago. This was only possible through building solidarity, with support from elected officials, @OCLF, @CaliforniaLabor, and our strike fund donors. Members will hear more on next steps soon. Onward! ✊
🚨🚨We've reached a tentative agreement! Our Nov. 2 rally in Santa Ana is canceled and we are lifting our strike deadline for now. We will hold a ratification vote soon. Here are some of the gains we’ve made:
At-will employment is eliminated by new just cause protections, ensuring discipline is fair and transparent. There are also guardrails around management performing our work, the use of AI, freelance contracting, and involuntary beat assignments for reporters.
If you want to support @SCNGguild and our members, we have launched a donation page to help raise funds in the event of a strike.

We're ‼️FIVE‼️ days away from going on an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike if management doesn't bargain in good faith and present us with an acceptable proposal.
The time for a fair and equitable contract is now!
We invite our allies to join us for a practice picket on Nov. 2 in downtown Santa Ana to show the company, the public, and our co-workers that we are sticking together to win the contract we deserve.
