Due to unprecedented crowds and traffic in San Francisco for the fireworks tonight, the Muni system is experiencing significant delays. Muni customers waiting in line at Powell may miss the fireworks. We encourage you to consider other modes of transportation: Walking, bicycling, scooters, taxis and rideshare.

The record volume of attendees along the waterfront will cause significant delays leaving — please consider walking or biking, taxis and rideshare. Or, take the time and enjoy the bars and restaurants in and around the waterfront neighborhoods while traffic congestion improves.

UPDATE THREE ALARM FIRE CALIFORNIA AT BRODERICK

The San Francisco Fire Department is currently working to extinguish a fire in the lower Pacific Heights district, specifically at the intersection of Broderick and California streets.

We have moved to a transitional fire attack strategy, allowing firefighters to enter a portion of the building after confirming its structural integrity. They have successfully extinguished some fires in difficult-to-reach locations that were challenging to tackle defensively. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries, and no one has been displaced. Those temporarily affected by the fire are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. We will continue to provide updates as we work towards completely extinguishing the fire.

Media staging location has been established in the 1900 block of Broderick. This will be just north of California Street on Broderick.

This remains an active two-alarm church fire with heavy fire activity at this time.

We do have a Public Safety drone in use. We’re asking the public to consider avoiding the use of recreational drones in this area (IF YOU FLY WE CAN'T) and asking media helicopters to stay above a 1000-foot ceiling.

Tomorrow at 10am, we’re hosting a rally on the steps of City Hall alongside Moms Demand Action @amominsfdemands and the Brady Campaign @bradyunitedsf to remember the victims of gun violence. 

We’ll be wearing orange as part of a nationwide movement that commemorates Hadiya Pendleton, a high school student who was shot and killed at a playground in the Southside of Chicago in 2013.

Gun violence is preventable & remains the leading cause of death for young people under the age of 25.

Especially in the wake of the recent shooting at the San Diego Islamic Center, I’m proud of the work with Pierce’s Pledge @piercespledge to launch a free firearm relinquishment and storage program to prevent family tragedies

Please join me and our fellow gun violence prevention advocates as we honor those we’ve lost and recommit ourselves to ending this senseless violence. Every life taken is one too many.

Opening a business in San Francisco should be easy, not hard.

Over the last 18 months, we’ve cut red tape, reduced permitting delays, waived first-year fees for new small businesses, and supported our neighborhood theaters.

Right now in San Francisco, the price of rent is insane.

We need to be a city that says yes to thoughtful growth in the form of 6 to 8 story tall new apartment buildings.

Last year, we passed the Family Zoning Plan to turn this dream into a reality.

I’m very proud to have gone parcel by parcel with every neighborhood association and merchant group in D2 to incorporate their voices into our city’s zoning map.

Together, we’re working to make San Francisco a city where families can stay, grow, and thrive.

Shout out to @scsherrill and his staff — a resident copied me on an email about a corner in the Marina where a 5-car pileup happened in part because a tree blocked them stop sign. The next day the resident thanked Sherrill — DPW trimmed the tree so the stop sign is now visible.

Pedestrian safety is public safety!

About a month ago, a child was hit by a car at the corner of Jackson and Divisadero.

Thankfully, the kid is okay but to make sure it never happens again, @sfmta_muni installed a new stop sign at the intersection to make the intersection safer for kids walking to school.

On Friday night, my campaign did an amazing bar crawl down Union and Chestnut St to support local businesses and hear directly from owners, workers, and neighbors.

It was great! 

In City Hall, everything we do needs to be oriented towards helping them thrive.

At today’s Board meeting:

1. We voted to streamline the City Charter by getting rid of inactive commissions that haven’t met in years. It’s the first of many steps to make City government work more efficiently. Keep an eye out for additional charter amendments on your November ballot.

2. We pushed to expand the successful speed camera program, which has already led to 80% fewer speeding incidents at the 33 SF camera sites. It’s one of the best ways we can keep kids safe on their walk to school.

3. We’re continuing the push to revitalize downtown by creating the Downtown Hospitality Zone to help fill empty storefronts between Yerba Buena and Union Square. For downtown to fully bounce back, it needs to become a real 24/7 neighborhood, and this moves us in that direction.

4. Lastly, I had the honor of commending Marla Perkins, Choir Director at St. Mary’s Church in Cow Hollow. For more than 30 years, Marla has been a pillar of the community, and SF is a more magical place because of people like her.

More than 800 dog bites were reported to SFPD last year, yet the City’s enforcement agency has failed to properly enforce the law.

San Francisco’s Dangerous and Vicious Dog Unit has not convened since June 2025 to hear complaints. This is unacceptable. Government must function effectively to adjudicate cases and intervene when necessary to keep our dog parks, playgrounds, and public spaces safe.

As Chair of the Government Audit and Oversight Committee, it is my responsibility to hold City departments accountable and ensure residents receive the essential services they depend on.

Every day, San Francisco’s firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs show up for our city — responding in moments of crisis and keeping residents safe. Today, I was proud to stand alongside Firefighters Local 798 as Mayor Lurie @danielluriesf signed legislation that invests in the people who do this critical work every single day.

Even in a challenging budget year, public safety must remain a top priority. This labor contract reflects that commitment: supporting the frontline professionals who keep our city running while doing so in a fiscally responsible way.

San Franciscan first responders have our backs every day. This contract agreement is about having their backs – ensuring these public servants earn a living wage that empowers them to live here, grow here, and thrive here in San Francisco.

Thank you to every firefighter, paramedic, and EMT for your service and sacrifice. And a special thank you to Local 798 @sffdlocal798 President Sam Gebler, Fire Chief Dean Crispen, my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors, and Mayor Lurie for championing this agreement.
