I’m a Browns fan, so I’m obviously rooting for Baker and company to come back and win this game. But if you’ve watched this game and you think that Baker Mayfield is the quarterback to lead a Browns team to the promised land, you’re so vastly mistaken it hurts.
Baker Mayfield is the only quarterback on the planet who could somehow throw a fumble.
Some of you guys really want to pay this guy Russell Wilson type money. Seriously.
To win this game, you’re going to have to win one-on-one battles and make guys miss in space. This isn’t going to be a drop back and pick them apart type of game.
Remember when people said Baker can’t throw in the wind and the elements in the AFC North? I guess we’re really going to find out whether that’s true today.
The Indians have placed Brad Hand on outright waivers with the intention of declining his $10 million club option if he goes unclaimed, sources say. If a team does claim him, the Indians won't be responsible for paying his $1 million buyout. Hand posted a 2.05 ERA in 2020.
The Browns aren’t serious Super Bowl contenders with their defense as-is. So a move for a receiver would indicate that the real goal is simply to evaluate Mayfield.
And if that’s the goal this season, that’s fine.
Not sure the Browns have to make a move for a big name receiver. While getting another playmaker is never bad, establishing depth and rolling with their guys isn’t a terrible idea, either.
Let’s put it this way: What do the Browns view as the next step in their progression? Is the rest of the season an evaluation of Mayfield? If so, give him the weapons and see what he does with them.
