@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok Pleasure speaking with you today. Best wishes to you and yours, and enjoy dinner! Thank you for keeping the discussion civil. That's not something you see a great deal of today.
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok Also, I'm not talking entitlement or material gain on that. I'm talking enough foundation that they'd never have to starve or worry of security. I disagree that means you have to give up your faith to attain either.
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok I'm aware I'm just one person, but i disagree. I want wealth to help people. I want enough to live comfortably, then to spread that. I have a rough idea of how much I'd need to make to accomplish that and I'd be able to live happily on just that.
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok In general, we're getting more generous according to that data. And that mutual protection couldn't happen if people were starving. Why would altruism be exhibited first if we were innately selfish?
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok Even if that were true, Gallup Polls and World Giving Index were higher post-pandemic. Granted, these are self reported so we have to take that with a grain of salt, but the US is in the top 5 givers with a predominantly Islam practicing country as 1 https://t.co/nxyL8OouRZ (1/2)
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok I think that's unfortunately true of all systems right now. And sure, you may be right. If the system fails, people may not be willing to give. I can't dispute that, that's just a good point. Governments should be moving toward a better model of charity
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok Sure, and that's perfectly fine. But your being around is likely to be less than that of your children, if they're not as lucky that material you gained could serve them. Not that it should be sole focus, but it's pretty important to help set them up for good earthly lives
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok And how much of our current life is natural? None. Hence my suggestion that we learn that selfishness, since children as early as 19 months exhibit altruism. Our distant ancestors never had to worry about cars, they had to make sure everyone ate.
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok I think that exposes a bigger problem than having a lack of religion. I would agree that government interference causes frequently more damage than help. But, that government intervention with socialized charity helps more children. That's a net positive
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok From thar perspective, i suppose that's fair. But keep in mind that quality of life doesn't always mean material gain. That could afford a house more suited for the number of children you have, more sound to give them a home after parent's passing, etc
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok See, that's just it though. We're innately social, it's counterintuitive for us to be selfish by nature. How would we survive collectively if everyone defaulted to hording resources?
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok The welfare system is like a community fund. Granted, obtaining it by taxes is different than charity. But the net result is the same, no?
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok That's most likely environment. A number of observational studies show altruism develops first: https://t.co/4qkstQFVGp
Children are incredibly pure forms of the human condition, in my opinion. Would you agree with that?
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok Yes, i understand Christianity has charity as a core principle. If the problem was a lack of religion, why is it that despite being more religious than many countries the US has more impoverished children?
We have more churches than Norway. (2/2)
@OrbitaDicta@CorkYou@libsoftiktok That's great, but picture a situation where that fund didn't exist. I'm saying it you had zero choice, zero community, your kids starve or you steal food, what would you do?
