@jarod_frye@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist Kojima Productions was a major internal studio, not the department running Konami entire mobile and pachinko output. The way you are telling it makes it sound like he was personally overseeing every corner of the company.
@LevattW@RazorFist If you are gonna say something that dumb then call it a joke when someone calls it out, just own it. Dont act like the problem is other people not getting your “hyperbole.”
@jarod_frye@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist You are giving him control over the entire company at this point. Having strong influence on the main game studios is one thing, saying he was running the mobile and pachinko divisions too is just making him into some all powerful figure that didnt exist.
@jarod_frye@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist having only a few people above you doesnt mean you run the entire company like its your personal studio. hierarchy on paper isnt the same as having free rein over every major business decision.
@LevattW@RazorFist “Blowing money on celebrities” is such a lazy way to sum it up. the man makes expensive, high concept games, thats been his thing for years. reducing the whole Konami situation to “he just wanted to hang out with famous people” is pure cartoon villain stuff.
@jarod_frye@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist You are really determined to make him the sole villain of everything that happened at Konami huh. Restricting the engine was messy, yeah, but this version where he single handedly sabotaged the whole company is getting more dramatic every reply.
@jarod_frye@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist comparing him to Eric Bischoff doesnt magically mean he ran every part of Konami.. he had real power on the game side, but this “he controlled everything” story is still being pushed way too hard.
@jarod_frye@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist You are acting like he was running the entire company from a throne. he had a lot of power on the game side, sure, but this idea that every single decision and every problem at Konami traces back to him is just exhausting at this point.
@jarod_frye@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist having a lot of influence isnt the same as controlling the entire company direction. he had serious pull on the game side, but Konami bigger business decisions still sat with the top executives...
@jarod_frye@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist Being VP doesnt mean he controlled every decision in the company. And yeah budgets matter, but reducing everything to “it either made money or it didn’t” while pinning all of Konami problems on him is still oversimplifying it.
@LevattW@RazorFist pachinko was profitable for them, yeah. but saying they only did it because of Kojima and that he left them with no other choice is still a big leap.. companies pivot for all kinds of reasons, and Konami was already heading that way.
@jarod_frye@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist games arent just binary “made money or didn’t.” MGSV did fine commercially and critically. And the Fox Engine drama was messy on both sides, but acting like Kojima single handedly wasted the company’s future is still a huge reach....
@realshapeofevil@RazorFist going over budget happens with a lot of big ambitious games, thats just true... but pinning Konami whole direction change and the pachinko shift mainly on Kojima still feels like giving him way more control over the company than he actually had.
@Atlas5976@BleachedShoes@RazorFist calling Kojima the toxic one because Sony decided to pull funding is a stretch. studios always drop projects for all kinds of reasons, especially when budgets get high. It doesnt automatically mean the creator is the problem in every relationship.
@detroitotaku@NewsProspector@RazorFist Its true that profit matters more than raw sales, but MGSV still did solid numbers and isnt some legendary bomb. To treat it like it wrecked Konami is just overselling the story...
