“Progressivism seeks to replace the basic premises of the Declaration of Independence, and hence our form of government. It holds that our rights and our dignities come not from God, but from the Government. It requires of the people a subservience and weakness incompatible with a Constitution premised on the transcendent origin of our rights.”
-Also Clarence Thomas, 2026
@peterboghossian You misconstrue the effect as the cause. Homophobia (properly: homomisia) is the effect of a properly functioning society, not the cause of one. Ergo, you castigate those whose instincts are those of the properly functioning society and whose actions are likely to produce one.
@DropzoneBrief They did absolute work during the invasion of Karbala. We were taking mortars every 5 minutes or so and they were johnny on the spot taking them out. 30 seconds from shot to Kiowa swarm and miniguns.
Imagine if you didn’t have to forcibly give 20-30% of your income away each month so that other people get free shit…
It would be easier to be a stay at home mom then, wouldn’t it?
If you make $75,000 with no dependents and standard deductions, the federal government takes $13,408 of that or 17.8%.
If you make $150,000 with no dependents and standard deductions, the federal government takes $36,209 or 24.1%.
That’s over $3,000 every single month at $150,000 a year.
And then we have somehow been conditioned to get excited about a “tax refund.”
A tax refund generally isn’t the government giving you money. It is the government returning money you overpaid throughout the year because too much was withheld from your paycheck.
That’s right, it’s your money they hold…
And then gave back to you months later, generally without paying you a dime for the privilege of using it.
Maybe instead of endlessly asking why it has become so difficult for a family to survive on one income, we should spend a little more time asking how much of that income the government consumes before the family ever gets a chance to spend it.
Federal dollars for stay-at-home moms sounds great. It sounds like tax dollars finally incentivizing good things instead of bad things for once.
But we should know better. We know how this ends. Everything the government touches turns to crap. Every good intention ends up doing the opposite. The people the government tries to help end up being destroyed.
Middle-class Christian families are the only thing holding this country together. They’re the last line of defense against tyranny. And entitlement addiction will weaken their resolve to fight it.
Turns out lots of Republicans are for expanding social welfare entitlements as long as they appear to help them.
I’m against expanding entitlements in any way.
We are $40 trillion in debt because entitlements and mandatory spending makes up 40% of our massive federal budget.
And people wonder why no one can afford anything…
LABOR DAY TRIBUTE #1: THE INFANTRY
1775–Present. The Army’s original branch and still somehow convinced everyone else is support.
The original labor force of American war: men expected to carry half their body weight into terrible places, sleep in dirt, find the enemy, and make his day dramatically worse.
Founded: 14 June 1775
Weapon: Rifle, bayonet, machine gun, mortar, grenades, and unresolved lower-back pain.
Natural Habitat: Rain, mud, rocks, swamps, mountains, or any other place a normal person would avoid.
Primary Labor: Taking ground so staff officers can color it green on a PowerPoint slide.
Doctrine: Walk farther. Carry more. Complain constantly. Fight anyway.
The Infantry was first because every army eventually runs into the same inconvenient truth: somebody has to get off the horse, out of the truck, away from the air conditioning, and physically go take the damn hill.
For 251 years, the business model has barely changed. Find enemy. Close distance. Destroy enemy. Lose sleep. Repeat.
Every other branch has a presentation explaining why it is indispensable.
The Infantry has a rucksack and trust issues.
Labor Day salute to the Infantry: carrying the Army on its back since 1775, while loudly insisting the rest of you aren’t really in it.
NC democrats call me a liar every single time I point out that Cooper cares more about criminals than the safety of North Carolinians.
What more proof do you need than Cooper ON TAPE saying that criminals need health care not handcuffs??
When it is going to sink in?
ANYONE BUT COOPER.
The News & Observer are clutching their pearls over “Republican lies” in the campaign against Roy Cooper?
Give me a fricking break.
We’re talking about the same damn paper that’s been running cover for Democrats in this state longer than I’ve been alive.
Y’all can argue over whether Decarlos Brown got out because of Cooper’s 2021 prison settlement.
Fine.
He still did armed robbery, served his time, stayed in the system, picked up more charges, and walked free to stab Iryna Zarutska in the neck on a Charlotte train. That girl came here fleeing a war and died on public transit.
Why? Because the system Cooper ran let a violent repeat offender keep cycling.
Cooper stood ten toes down on his Racial Equity in Criminal Justice task force after 2020 and pushed the whole “release first” mindset.
Remember that?
Cashless bail.
Reentry.
Equity.
Those were his priorities - not the safety of law abiding North Carolinians.
Then his administration settled a lawsuit and moved thousands of inmates out of prison and into our streets. Nearly half of the group got arrested again. Hundreds of serious new crimes. Some charged with murder.
That ain’t a campaign ad.
That’s Cooper’s record.
He vetoed ICE detainer bills more than once so sheriffs didn’t have to hold illegal immigrants for pickup.
He called it politics. Families who buried people after the illegals bonded out and ran called it something else.
On Cooper’s way out the door he commuted 15 death sentences. No vote from the victims’ families.
The N&O wants to litigate mutual funds and one messy super PAC ad like that’s the whole story. Cooper got sued over an untruthful ad himself back in 2000. They mentioned it in one sentence and went right back to preaching.
Here’s the truth: Cooper talked like a prosecutor to win his position and then governed like an activist after he got it.
Those are the facts.
ANYBODY BUT COOPER.
That’s not a slogan.
That’s my mission.
@dogwoodblooms I delivered my first calf in what will be the back parking lot of the one they're building now. I learned to drive a 1976 F100 with 3 on the tree back there too.
I love it when people who are not from the south moved to the south then pretend that their entire history was just the KKK and slavery.
The fact of the matter is THIS statue was cast before the Civil War even ended, just a few months after Stonewall Jackson’s death.
And a great part of the reason that a group of English admirers commissioned the statue is because they respected Jackson’s military prowess in the Mexican-American war and his religious devotion that led him to teach literacy and scripture to black children, even when it was against the law in the south. Well before the start of the Civil War.
I know our arrogant, puffed up modern day Democrats want to pretend that America was full of nothing but cartoon villains until MLK rose up, but it turns out, many great leaders in American history were complex and three dimensional.
May we pray that future generations of America have more grace and mercy for our memories than we have had for those who went before us.
