Bamboo, though native to Nepal, traditionally has been reserved for the construction of Hindu religious and funerary structures. But bamboo is locally available and rapidly renewable, so in response to the climate crisis some Nepali are increasingly building with bamboo.

Bamboo and earth are the primary materials for a local plaster technique for stud wall construction used by Arun and Narayan’s company Sustainable Future Nepal, with whom we’re working on the Maya Universe Academy kindergarten and Devghat Center for the Healing Arts.
