# $50 Bus Ride to Tijuana Sells Out Fast
The June 20th Corazón de Vida bus trip is a day-long volunteer visit to Casa Hogar Hacienda, one of the orphanages they support in Tijuana. Spots fill fast because everything’s handled for you — you just show up and spend the day with the kids.
**Joining the bus trip: the rundown**
- **Cost**: $50 per person. That covers round-trip bus from Orange County, breakfast snacks, lunch at the orphanage, and a donation that goes directly to the home.
- **Departure**: Buses usually leave from Santa Ana around 7:00-7:30am. You'll get the exact pickup location and time after you register. Plan to be back in OC by 6:00-7:00pm.
- **Registration**: Sign up through Corazón de Vida’s website under “Calendar” or “Events”. Since it’s selling out, register ASAP. Volunteers must be 8+ years old. Under 18 needs a guardian.
- **What to bring**: Valid passport or passport card for border crossing, sunscreen, comfy shoes, and cash if you want to buy souvenirs from the kids’ craft sale. No large bags.
- **Border**: The group crosses together on foot at San Ysidro with Corazón de Vida staff guiding you. They handle all the logistics.
**What volunteers do in a day**
It’s less about work projects and more about connection. A typical day looks like:
1. **Morning arrival**: Breakfast with the kids and staff at Casa Hogar Hacienda. Quick orientation from the directors about the home.
2. **Mid-morning activities**: You’ll break into groups — playing soccer, doing arts & crafts, reading, helping with English practice, or just hanging out. The goal is 1-on-1 time with the kids.
3. **Lunch**: Everyone eats together. Meals are prepared by the orphanage kitchen, and it’s a great chance to chat.
4. **Afternoon**: More free play, birthday celebrations if there are any that month, and sometimes a small service project like organizing donations or gardening.
5. **Goodbyes**: Group photo and hugs before loading the bus home.
Corazón de Vida’s philosophy is “quality time over quantity of labor.” You’re there to show up for the kids, give them attention, and remind them they’re supported. Many volunteers say the bus ride back is when it hits you — lots of reflection.
