🌊 SEAPOP is gaining ground at home and on the global stage!
A new report by Korea JoongAng Daily examines the growing international presence of Southeast Asian artists, as the region’s music industries continue to expand their reach.
The report highlights BINI’s Coachella appearance, SB19’s performances at international festivals, and growing overseas interest in Thai boy group DICE.
📊 Homegrown music is also gaining ground on domestic streaming charts.
According to figures cited in the report, the share of locally produced songs in Spotify’s domestic weekly Top 10 increased between 2021 and the first half of 2026:
🇮🇩 Indonesia: 39% → 97%
🇵🇭 Philippines: 31% → 81%
🇹🇭 Thailand: 71% → 76%
These figures point to a notable shift in listening trends, with Southeast Asian audiences increasingly embracing music from their own countries, even as international acts remain influential.
💙 What does this mean for SEAPOP?
The region is becoming more than a major market for international entertainment. Its artists are building stronger domestic audiences, expanding their presence overseas, and finding new opportunities to connect with listeners beyond their home countries.
While K-pop has influenced aspects of the region’s modern idol industry, Southeast Asian artists continue to build on their established musical identities, drawing from local music scenes, languages, and cultural influences while reaching new audiences.
Together, these developments highlight the growing visibility of Southeast Asian music, both within the region and internationally.
