For many years, the connection between #hypermobility and #neurodivergence was misunderstood or dismissed. Today, we are working to change that - helping individuals, families, professionals, and services better understand the strong links between physical and mental wellbeing! #SEDSConnective
Some of the amazing SEDSConnective stands we've hosted, covering topics such as Autism, ADHD, Musculoskeletal events, therapies and interventions in physical health, sleep, diet, education and peer to peer support.
These events are incredibly rewarding, but they can also be exhausting! We couldn't do it without the dedication of our amazing volunteers and the support of our community.
A huge thank you to every one of our incredible volunteers! 💛

@_Chris_Coghlan The main thing is false accusations we were told we were harming our daughter. But she had EDS only thing saving us was research by @SEDSConnective
The ‘BEOND’ survey is now open!
The survey is open to parents / caregivers of autistic children and adults with co-occurring intellectual disabilities. The survey takes about 60 minutes to complete, which can be done online or via post. Every family will receive a personalised feedback report after completing the survey.
@CerebraNetwork
The survey will run for the next 20 years. Families are welcome to take part every couple of years to see how their answers have changed with time. By collecting data over many years, we hope to get a much better insight into how individuals develop over time.

This matters
K Lisa Yang Centre is focusing on community shaped priorities for physical health &life expectancy.
Exactly what @SEDSConnective championed since 2018
We'd welcome the conversation
Now let's change the future @sbaroncohen@guardian#Hypermobility#neurodivergence
We're delighted Jane Green MBE has been appointed as a SHCRP Public & Community Adviser.
For SEDSConnective, meaningful research is shaped not only by researchers and clinicians, but by the lived experiences of the communities it aims to serve.
Through SEDSConnective, Jane brings the voices of thousands of people in the UK and worldwide living with symptomatic hypermobility, Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS), HSD, neurodivergence and associated conditions. Those voices, experiences and priorities can help inform and strengthen future health and care research.
Congratulations to everyone appointed. We look forward to seeing public and community involvement continue to shape research that matters.

A welcome read from @guardian today on neurodivergence and a connection to neurodivergent older age diagnosis.
At @SEDSConnective we've spent eight pioneering years joining the dots ( Autism, ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia dyscalculia Tourette's +)and symptomatic hypermobility (EDS/HSD dysautonomia, GI Allergies +) as one whole-system picture body/brain
It's never too late....♾🦓

Heat-induced neurological dysregulation
Sounds clinical Feels like wanting to throw your laptop out of the window?
When it's really hot, your body and brain are working harder just to keep your temperature stable (homeostasis) which means less capacity for everything else
Emotional regulation Patience Clear thinking Mood
Irritability spikes - Reactions get faster and harder to catch
Mood dips in ways that feel personal but aren't
This is not a character flaw
It's what happens when your whole system is running hot, literally
Name it. Heat rage is real. And it will pass when the temperature does 🙂
New research just dropped and it matters.
“Beyond bendy joints: number of variant connective tissue features predicts neurodivergent characteristics in hypermobile individuals with anxiety”
99 hypermobile adults with anxiety, none previously diagnosed as neurodivergent, were screened for autism and ADHD. Nearly half screened positive for autism. One in five for ADHD.
But here is the key finding:
The more connective tissue features someone had, the stronger their neurodivergent traits and sensory differences. More features. More traits. A measurable relationship.
Your joints, your sensory experiences, your nervous system, your neurodivergence. They are not separate systems. They never have been. They are the same picture.
This is what SEDSConnective has been saying since 2018 and some of us even earlier! Here is more of the evidence. We are so grateful to the researchers and participants whose work continues to advance understanding in this important area: Lisa Quadt, Jenny Csecs, Georgia Savage, Geoff Davies, Parashar Ramanuj, Alan J Hakim (adviser) , Nick Grey, Hugo D Critchley and Jessica Eccles aka @drbendybrain our Patron.
