Our community has lost a legendary public servant who first elevated #sealevelrise & #climatechange as critical issues in #SEFL. We owe #HarveyRuvin a huge debt of gratitude & will continue on the important work he devoted his life to advancing. https://t.co/94gfoL3i5D
Climate action is a moral necessity.
Climate action is an economic necessity.
Climate action is a national security necessity.
Climate action is a public health necessity.
There is no time left for delay.

South Florida’s drainage system isn’t working as well as it used to.
Most of our drainage system relies on gravity. During heavy rains, water either seeps into the ground or it flows downhill into pipes and canals that eventually wash out to sea. https://t.co/k7cTNAbVV5
And that's a wrap! Thanks so much to the nearly 800 folks who made the 14th Annual #SEFLClimateSummit an incredible event. We can't wait to see you again at the 15th Annual Climate Leadership Summit on #MiamiBeach November 16 & 17th, 2023!
In conversation among Compact Mayors @MiamiDadeCounty@MayorDaniella:"We are a model for the world in how to plan& take action jointly. The goals outlined in the RCAP reflect the priorities of my administration: environment, economy, equity, and engagement."#SEFLClimateSummit
On achieving net zero within the transportation sector, @ajtfyfe emphasized the importance of monitoring fuel emissions & reiterated a statement from Beth Osborne with @T4America: we must be good advocates with our state govts to get these practices in place. @SEFL_Compact
Former Congressman @carloslcurbelo on a federal #carbontax: "People call it a tax, and it technically is, but in reality it is just a recognition of a cost that is already out there, and we are already paying for." #SEFLClimateSummit
State Rep @Robin_Bartleman: "When we talk about #bipartisan support & leadership from the governor’s office–there are 2 new committees: infra strategies com. & hurricane resiliency&recovery com. Every wk we are going to be discussing what we can do to build a more #resilientFL."
Frmr Rep @carloslcurbelo at the #SEFLClimateSummit: "Why is bipartisanship important? It is not an end, but a means to meaningful, durable policy. For a challenge like #climatechange, we want policy to have staying power. We don’t want it to blow away w/ the political winds."
Day two of @SEFL_Compact starts with Rafe Pomerance’s pitch on how to keep Florida above water. Behind him is a proclamation from former Fl Gov Lawton Chiles proclaiming “global warming awareness week” in the 90s.
Check out our #SEFLClimateSummit keynote speaker, Rafe Pomerance's opinion piece on establishing an upper limit for sea level rise in Florida here: https://t.co/lIR0oMFION
#FL should establish an #upperlimit for #SLR. How much SLR can FL take& maintain viability? An upper limit to SLR means that FL & the US has to find an emissions path consistent w/ that upper limit. The task is to decide what that # is &make it central to policy. @RethinkEnergyFL
Kicking off today's #SEFLClimateSummit hearing from youth climate leadership: "Let's use our minds and hearts to find the solutions & our collective will to advocate for the changes necessary." -Ethan Bober
