Today at @Ubunifu_Hub, we marked #WorldEnvironmentDay with @Greenpeaceafric through discussions, reflections and a powerful documentary on the climate crisis.
One question stayed with us:
Are we happy with the current state of our environment?
The documentary reminded us that floods, droughts and storms are not natural disasters.
Across Africa, communities are losing homes, livelihoods and loved ones to a climate crisis they did not create.

Day 4 | TOT led #SheriayaVijana training on Leadership & Advocacy!
In today’s world, digital skills are no longer optional, and for young people working in #climate and #advocacy spaces, they have become a critical part of staying relevant, effective, and truly impactful in the work they do.
As our TOT-led trainings at YMCA Central come to a close, today’s first session, facilitated by Veronica Kahutu, focused on how #youngpeople can practically use AI and digital tools to strengthen their work across advocacy, business, and climate action spaces.
Breaking Down AI into Practical Use
Rather than approaching AI as a complex concept, the session simplified it into clear, usable skills that participants can apply immediately:
🔹Understanding how to communicate with AI through effective prompt writing
🔹 Structuring prompts by clearly defining goals, context, and expected outcomes
🔹 Improving results through follow-up questions and refinement
🔹 Using AI tools to support research, writing, and everyday productivity
Participants also explored commonly used tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Grammarly, and Microsoft Copilot, gaining a better understanding of how these tools can support their work when used intentionally.
Balancing Opportunity with Responsibility
The session also created space to reflect on the responsible use of AI, emphasising the importance of protecting personal and organisational data, being aware of bias in generated content, and verifying information before applying it in real-world contexts.
Why This Training Matters
As young people continue to take up space in climate and advocacy work, the ability to use digital tools effectively is becoming just as important as understanding #policy and systems, because it shapes how ideas are communicated, how work is organised, and how impact is scaled.
The Power of Youth-Led Learning
Through the #SheriayaVijana project, funded by European Union in Kenya, young people are being equipped with knowledge as well as being trusted to lead the learning process, creating a space where peers can learn from each other in ways that are more relatable, practical, and grounded in shared experiences.
By using a Training of Trainers model, the project is intentionally creating a ripple effect where knowledge does not remain within the training room but is passed on, expanded, and applied across different #communities, strengthening not just individual capacity but collective impact.
