NEW POST: The #SENDReview is light on ideas for boosting Speech, language and communication. The charity I CAN says the Green Paper must embed communications skills across education, and that includes teacher training https://t.co/8dzsH2Muh2
"It does seem at this point like the Department for Education is trying to ensure that anyone who cares about defending children's rights is so buried under paperwork that they might just be crushed by the weight of it." It does feel a bit like that - but we are not crushed!
Hey @VodafoneUK, what do I need to do to urgently speak to someone who can explain why you’ve taking unauthorised payments from the account of a vulnerable adult? Not one person I’ve spoken to can help explain it.

I just wrote to my MP to call on @RishiSunak to make good on @BorisJohnson pledge to make social care system 'fair for all' and end 'catastrophically' high care costs #SocialCareCap for those with lifelong disabilities.
Pls RT, share, write to your MP

“Where a council does not meet their requirements to provide appropriate support for these children, we will not hesitate to take action that prioritises their needs and brings about rapid improvement"
Department for Education, Oct 2021
The defecit model still assumes carers must be mistaken if they seek support. And ensures there's never a shortage of money & time which 'services' can invest in the process of stalling and saying 'no service' indefinately.

@send_march@cc_herts Schls shldn't be scared off allowing private practitioners to support! Fear of funding difficulties CAN'T be permitted to impact ed needs. And EHCP doesn't determine £ in schl, LA does, based on needs! Outside suppt only leads to costs if needs are evidenced because needs exist!
@send_march@cc_herts That's approx 15-20 emails each. I receive the same as a parent carer, plus letters, forms and calls from multiple services but HCC havent asked ed settings to consider this burden or provision to support me as a carer.
Sure funding is limiting & disadvantageous. Personally, & another case, it's not worth price of 1-2 reports. Espec. if all necessary reports not advised for!
Struggling to understand LA firms furloughing busy staff over xmas too, when worked all year without interruption!
@SEND_Essentials Yes, very patchy delivery but the £s given for the job is very, very low. The reports which can be commissioned are often essential though
Really good article about how disabled children and their parents are treated by society just for trying to secure basic human rights. Also sad the way parents are often misunderstood, judged & criticised if they don’t do this in a certain “acceptable” manner...
Tried legal help 4 18 yr old's appeal. Nightmare, hugely inefficient on ourselves, documents not passed on on several occasions. Felt like legal kinder garten at times. Others have experienced worse. Oddly, LA better prepared than usual. 3rd hearing pending. The cost is MASSIVE.
@TheSecretSendM1 No, very much solicitor on board at initial response stage. The query becomes - is it LA/parent chaos, a poor solicitor or a mix of both? It is the solicitor's job to advise their client - so???
@PaulbernalUK Since the beginning of time it has been this. Viruses mutate at a rate. Since when did leaders become so utterly incredulous and who appointed this one?
Very pleased that we have written to all personal assistants or their employers in Herts to invite them for their vaccine. #directpayments#personalisedcare
