Almost a year ago, my image of a certain chess creator changed for the worse when he reached out to a friend of mine making disgusting comments about a particular female chess streamer. He also made resentful comments with regards to her and my respective sub counts. Reading some of the awful replies on @GothamChess tweet and @julesgambit experiences helped me decide this is a good time to get this off my chest. Whether you have a platform or not, if you’re going to be an educator in this game and are supposedly an ally towards women’s chess publicly, do not just behave that way publicly. Reading the DM my friend sent me with him angered me a ton and has rubbed me the wrong way ever since. You cannot be an ally if those are the type of thoughts you express in private. I do not tolerate that fake and spiteful behavior. Apart from the person in question, it also makes it hard to know who is truly trying to support us in this journey to reduce misogyny in chess.
