We're excited to introduce the newest member of the S.E. Tradesmen team, John Barnes Jr.

John joins us after serving as an Escambia County Plumbing Inspector since 2021. Before stepping into code enforcement, he spent more than 15 years as a service plumber, giving him a unique perspective from both sides of the inspection process. He also holds a Florida DBPR Plumbing Inspector License, bringing extensive code knowledge and field experience to our team.

John is a devoted husband and father, and he'll be serving as our Plumbing Quality Inspector.

What does that mean for our customers?

If S.E. Tradesmen installs your water heater, completes a repipe, installs a new gas system, or performs a plumbing addition, there's a good chance John will be the first person to inspect our work before we schedule your inspection, and the last person on site to verify we lived up to our high standards.

His responsibilities include:

Recently, we received a 1-star review from a homeowner named Christine.

After reading it, something didn’t feel right. The review described a plumbing job we had never performed, a customer we didn’t recognize, and a situation that didn’t match our records.

So we reached out.

Christine was kind enough to speak with us and quickly realized the review had been left for the wrong plumbing company. She was apologetic and said she would remove it when she had time.

But honestly, her story stuck with us.

She hired a licensed plumbing contractor. She paid $24,000 for a replumbing job. According to her, the work left behind damage, unfinished issues, missed appointments, and thousands of dollars in repair costs. Now she’s left trying to figure out how to get her home made right.

Christine didn’t do anything wrong. She did what homeowners are supposed to do: she hired a licensed contractor.

And that’s exactly why this matters.

Plumbing carries real risk. Even the best plumbers can make a mistake. Even trusted manufacturers can have a defective part. A small failure in a plumbing system can cause massive damage inside a home.

We know, because something similar happened to one of our customers this year.

We installed a recirculation system for a homeowner. Due to a manufacturer’s defect, the equipment malfunctioned in the middle of the night and flooded their kitchen with hot water while they were asleep. They woke up because the house had become steamy.

They called us, and we were there that morning.

The damage was extensive. We immediately contacted ProClean for remediation and started an insurance claim. ProClean went straight to work, bringing in equipment and a crew to minimize the damage. But when we were told by our insurance that the claims process could take weeks before repairs were approved, that didn’t sit right with us.

That was unacceptable.

So we called McGuirk Construction and Renovations, LLC, a local contractor we trust, and told him to do whatever it took to make it right.

Floors, sheetrock, cabinets, and everything affected by the water damage were removed and replaced. We refunded the work we performed. In total, we paid almost $40,000 out of pocket to take care of that customer before insurance made a final decision.

Why?

Because that’s what a good contractor does.

A good contractor doesn’t leave a customer sitting in limbo with a damaged kitchen, bathroom, or living space while everyone argues about who is responsible. A good contractor takes ownership, communicates clearly, and makes it right.

Dutch Bros Underground Plumbing Complete!

Our crew has completed the underground plumbing phase for the new Dutch Bros Coffee location on Mobile Highway in Pensacola.

This portion of the project included the installation of the building’s underground sanitary sewer and domestic water systems, laying the foundation for the next phases of construction.

Led by Foreman Tim, the team worked closely with Tatco Construction to keep the project moving efficiently while maintaining the clean, organized workmanship we expect on every commercial job.

Underground work is one of the most important phases of any plumbing system. Once concrete is poured, there are no shortcuts and no second chances.

Great work by Tim and the crew getting this project ready for inspection and the next stage of construction!

🚧 A Slab Leak Doesn’t Always Mean You Need a Repipe 🚧

Yesterday, a homeowner called us for a second opinion after being told they needed to completely repipe their home because of a slab leak.

We’re firm believers that copper is still king when it comes to water piping. And if you’ve only had one slab leak, that doesn’t automatically mean your whole system has failed.

Sometimes, a slab leak is caused by something as simple as abrasion. A tiny rock beneath the slab rubbing against a copper pipe for years can eventually wear a pinhole through the pipe.

In cases like that, we usually recommend repairing the leak first. If a second leak develops later in a different location, then it may be time to discuss a repipe.

Ethean and Ian located and repaired this leak in under 3 hours, saving the homeowner over $10,000 compared to a full repipe.

One important note:
Copper repairs beneath a concrete slab must be done using the brazing method. Soldered joints and mechanical fittings are not approved repair methods under a slab.

Good plumbing isn’t about selling the biggest job. It’s about giving honest recommendations and fixing the problem the right way.

Building a Service Van: Part 5 - Total Cost

There’s a part of this trade most people never see.

When a plumber shows up to your house, everything looks simple. The van pulls up, the door opens, and the work begins. What you don’t see is what went into building that van before it ever hit the road.

Van 008 is a good example of that.

After about 30 hours of design and install work, this van was built to be more than just transportation. It’s a fully functioning mobile plumbing system, designed to handle as much work as possible without needing to leave a jobsite.

Some tools are optional. Others define the level of service you can provide.
This van is equipped with two of the most important pieces of equipment we use in the field:

The camera allows us to see exactly what’s happening inside a drain line—no guessing, no assumptions. The K60 gives us the ability to clear lines efficiently and thoroughly.

We’ve made a decision as a company to stay consistent:
