Little STEM Jacks - Design a Fish
Students explored the concept of adaptations and the traits that enhance an organism’s survival. Then they applied their new knowledge by designing a fish, utilizing the adaptive characteristics they studied. #SFASU#STEM#Biology#Adaptations
Little STEM Jacks - Balloon Cars
Students became engineers for the morning and build balloon powered cars. They chose their building supplies, tested their design, and made improvements to see which car could travel the furthest.

Little STEM Jacks - Beach Clean-up
In this activity, students learned about the dangers relating to pollution in water ways, followed by an introduction to coding. The students then put their skills to practice by programming their "fuzz" character to pick up trash from a beach.
Little STEM Jacks - Seed Balls
In this activity, campers learned about native plants and pollinators. They also made seed balls to take home that contain native flowers and grasses.

Little STEM Jacks - Create a Flower
Students learned about the different plant parts, as well as their function. They then made and decorated their own flowers.

Little STEM Jacks Camp - What's Out There?
In this activity, students learned about what objects, both natural and man-made, can be found in space. Campers then made their own little universe, with items ranging from stars and planets to rockets and galaxies!

In Butterfly Art, the campers used chromatography to create wings for their butterfly. In Magic Pufferfish, the students created a baking soda and vinegar reaction inside their decorated balloon. Finally, in Rocket Stompers, the students learned about and made their own rockets.
Little STEM Jacks Camp was a huge success last week with just shy of 100 incoming elementary students! Activities ranged from biology to astronomy to geometry, and were primarily designed and led by our pre-service teachers from the JacksTeach program. @jacksteach#SFASU#STEM
