Our mission is to protect @sfchronicle journalists, advertising and business employees, and @SFGate employees. Unit of the Pacific Media Workers Guild.
Today more than 290 Hearst journalists from across the country sent this letter to our bosses, demanding they treat us with the respect and dignity we deserve.
Here is what we are asking for:

🗞️ Good Election Day morning
— The @NYTGuildTech strike continues today, marking the first strike by a union represented by the @newsguild to coincide with a presidential election in 60 years.
— The picket line starts back up at 9:00 a.m. ET in NYC
I just wrote a @theactionnet letter: Tell Hearst CT Media Group: Reinstate Adrian & Recognize the Connecticut News Guild. Write one here: https://t.co/brFvNhP0Ea
We, the journalists of Hearst Connecticut Media, are forming a union.
We ask that Hearst voluntarily recognize our unit so we may begin negotiating a contract that benefits all parties, including our communities.

This marks *28* @newsguild strikes in 2024 so far.

Breaking news: The journalists of the San Antonio @ExpressNews and @MySA are unionizing.
For over 150 years, Express-News and MySA have kept the Alamo City informed, and in order to continue our important work, we're forming the San Antonio NewsGuild.
Last week, @SFCGuild hosted a Narcan training session for members put on by @SaferTogetherSF and organized by @NualaBishari. I learned a lot, gained the confidence to administer it if needed and have some new tools in my camera bag ❤️ Thanks Nuala for making it happen!
First work stoppage in the history of the L.A. Times.
Still a great media organization - and this fight for the future impacts all of us who value coverage of California. I know MANY @SFCGuild members will be thinking of you tomorrow.

🦅THE L.A. TIMES GUILD IS WALKING OUT🦅
We are calling for a one-day walkout TOMORROW, Jan. 19, in protest of management's proposal to cut staff and multiple unfair labor practices.

Our 24-hour strike has begun.
For the first time in 50 years, @washingtonpost workers are walking off the job because our company is refusing to bargain in good faith and breaking the law.
We strongly condemn the killing of journalists in Gaza, Israel and Lebanon and call on all parties to ensure the safety of journalists. We also condemn comments made by Benny Gantz, an Israeli government minister, who compared journalists to “terrorists” https://t.co/lRKTdvEduZ
Whelp, that didn't last long.
Second time working for a Bay Area newspaper. Second time getting hit by a mass layoff within the first three months. Oof.
So sorry for all my talented colleauges who lost their jobs yesterday, as well. Oof X 8.
I'll be leaving the Chronicle soon. Like so many others, I'm trying to figure out where to step next in this fraught moment for media. Totally unclear where our craft is headed.
This is a very sad and frustrating day for the Chronicle newsroom. These talented journalists who were laid off with very little notice deserved so much more. Management should be reflecting on their role in this loss.
This is horrible news.
Our audio team is incredibly talented and hard-working and personally just great and caring people. They did good work for our community.
Thanks to all who listened.
😢🙏🏼
It's been a tough morning for @SFCGuild:
Today, Guild leadership learned that eight members of the newsroom, including six of our members, were being laid off.
To say we're frustrated is an understatement. We are absolutely devastated. I will miss my colleagues who worked on both the audio and SFNext initiatives, which helped deliver vital coverage to our community.
