SFT calls for the immediate release of Asang, and all Tibetan political prisoners illegally held by the Chinese government for exercising their inalienable human right to freedom of expression.
#Asang#FreeTibet#BannedInTibet
Tibetan singer Asang was abducted by the Chinese government earlier this month. His "crime?" Releasing a video where he sang a song expressing longing and respect for His Holiness 14th Dalai Lama during His recent 90th birthday celebrations.
Yet, despite over 60 years of colonial occupation, and knowing full well the great risk to their lives, Tibetans inside Tibet continue to manifest their deep and abiding faith in His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet in brave, courageous, and defiant ways.
SFT will continue to fight for the right of Tibetans and Tibetan Buddhists to practice their religion—and to shine the truth on China's lies, wherever they may sow them.

This blatantly contradictory statement was rebuked by Thinley Chukki—The Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Geneva—as well as the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief.
The Chinese government also appeared at the event and made a formal intervention, declaring that any future Dalai Lama must be born within the PRC and be approved by the CCP. They claimed that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has no role to play in the selection of His successor.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief stated that the CCP has no authority to interfere in the Tibetan Buddhist religious practice of recognizing reincarnated lamas—citing the UDHR, ICCPR, and other international human rights legal precedents.
Today, Tibet activists were able to deliver His Holiness's statement on the continuation of the Dalai Lama institution and address the governments of 27 nations at an official Side Event during the 59th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
He reiterated that the responsibility for identifying the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama lies with Gaden Phodrang, the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He clearly stated that no outside parties have any authority to interfere in this Tibetan Buddhist religious process.
Tibet activists, Tibetans, and Tibetan Buddhists around the world will not stand idly by as the CCP tries to destroy and subvert this sacred Buddhist practice.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama turns 90 next week, and China has launched an all-out effort to convince the world that the CCP will choose and install His reincarnation.
The Chinese government is terrified of the reverence and deep esteem His Holiness the Dalai Lama still holds across the world—and most importantly, from those Tibetans inside Tibet.
