Today, on International Urogynaecology Day, we stand for women’s pelvic health and advocate for better care, education, and treatment options. 💪♀️

Let's support women's pelvic health by:

Educate secondary school girls on pelvic floor health 🏫 (many are unaware of its importance).

Ensure women are fully informed about the risks of childbirth 🤰 (the whole truth is often not shared).

Implement mandatory pelvic floor rehabilitation after childbirth 🏋️‍♀️ (currently inconsistent, especially in Europe).

Promote safer, non-surgical treatments for women dealing with incontinence and prolapse 💧 (physiotherapy should be a key option).

Offer non-mesh surgical alternatives for women considering incontinence or prolapse surgery ⚖️ (more skilled surgeons are essential).

Let’s support, inform, and empower women to take control of their pelvic health. 🌸

As a Medicolegal Expert, it's crucial to recognise the boundaries of one's expertise. Being an expert in one field doesn't automatically qualify you in others. The Civil Procedure Rule 35.3(1) is clear "It's the duty of experts to help the court on matters within their expertise."

If in doubt that a matter is at the edge of your expertise, you must communicate this to the lawyers! 🧑‍⚖️ 🎯

This approach preserves your professionalism and integrity. 💼⚖️

I felt gratitude today to Professor Ibrahim Samaha, the first person to teach me how to do continence surgery in the early 1990s.

Samaha was the head of the urogynaecology department in Ain Shams University, Cairo, when I was a trainee gynaecologist. 🎓

Surgical skills, ethics and the desire to establish the truth are only a few of what he stood for.

The most important lesson I learned from him? The value of perspective. 🧐

Once you “know your science”, it’s your interaction / response to it that matters. It is special (and perhaps unique) to who you are. 👨‍⚕️

Today, Perspective (not money, time or even attention) remains our most valuable resource.
