General Abdel Fattah al Burhan, the Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council, departed home in the early afternoon hours today after a fruitful Summit with President Isaias Afwerki.
The discussions centered on enhancement of bilateral ties and broader consultation on other matters of mutual interest to both countries.
In an Interview with the Eritrean News Agency, General al Burhan stated that his current visit to Eritrea constitutes yet another manifestation of the robust popular and historical ties that exist between the two sisterly countries.
General Burhan further expressed his appreciation for Eritrea's principled position on the current situation in Sudan.
The Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, arrived in Asmara in the mid-morning hours today for a working visit.
The current visit is part and parcel of the periodic consultative framework that is held between the two sisterly countries.
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his entourage were accorded warm welcome by President Isaias Afwerki on their arrival at Asmara International Airport.
President Isaias Afwerki and General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan will discuss enhancement of bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Potemkin Party's official and affiliated mouthpieces have switched to a "broken gramophone mode" these days.
Indeed, taking their cue from PP's senior political and military leaders, they are intensifying and have ramped up, by several notches, their hysterical campaigns of disinformation and vitriol against Eritrea.
The themes remain - with minor permutations here and there - constant and boringly monotonous to essentially revolve around:
i) historical revisionism to denigrate Eritrea's Statehood;
ii) mendaciously blaming Eritrea for the myriad internal woes of their own making; and,
iii) wholesale distortion of Eritrea's normative policies of regional cooperation in the Horn of Africa and the wider Middle East region.
These duplicitous political schemes are floated to camouflage and justify the agenda of reckless and destructive war that they have been contemplating for almost three years now in pursuit of, and to acquire, "sovereign access to sea" as well as project "maritime power with strategic depth in the Red Sea" in flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union.
As we have underlined on various occasions before, the Potemkin Party's hollow and delusional pronouncements cannot deceive the peoples of the Horn of Africa and the international community at large.
In the event, our response remains the same as summarized in the link below: "ዘረባ ኣደይ ለቱ፡ ኣየውፍር ኣየእቱ!"

#Eritrea is solemnly commemorating today the 65th Anniversary of the beginning of the Armed Struggle for national liberation and human dignity.
As it will be recalled, a small people and nation had to suffer the ordeals of Africa's longest war of liberation, (1961-1991), simply because their inalienable right to decolonization, the pronounced provisions of international law, were brazenly compromised and subordinated to mollify the geopolitical interests of global powers and their regional surrogate.
In this respect, September 1st, 1961, epitomizes the noble determination, as well as history of resilience and heroism, of a small people who chose not to succumb to injustices and the logic of crude force or military power!
#MissWorld — Eritrea’s pageant is sitting comfortably at 5.2 million votes and still climbing. Meanwhile, the Nigerian and Ethiopian contestants are fighting tooth and nail for second and third, trading places at around 2.4 million and 2.2 million votes. Ethiopia’s earlier lead has officially gone up in smoke.
As for us? We’re keeping the voting cards in our pockets for now. No need to waste ammunition when the competition is already exhausting itself. We’ll just sit back, watch the scoreboard, and wait. If either contestant suddenly finds a miracle surge, we’ll know exactly what to do.

Hoax News Story on the Phantom “Eritrean Oil Tanker”
This bizarre story is astounding on many counts:
- All the information in the public domain about this ship shows that it is not owned by, and has no links whatsoever with, Eritrea.
- IMO records show that "the ship is flying a false Eritrean flag; i.e, as not owned by or officially registered in Eritrea". This was duly confirmed to Eritrea's Permanent Mission to the IMO.
- Yet, the usual culprits chose to abandon all semblance of journalistic standards to indulge in, and unleash, another despicable campaign of disinformation on Eritrea.

Eritrea’s Sovereignty Is Not Negotiable: Neither Is the Sovereignty of Any Other African Nation
Embassy of the State of Eritrea
Washington, D.C.
17 August 2026
*"...At the heart of current Eritrea-Ethiopia tensions is a fundamental question that should not be obscured: commercial access to a port is one matter; sovereignty over another country’s coastline or territory is entirely another".
*"...Eritrea has no territorial claim against Ethiopia, demands no Ethiopian land or resources, and seeks no alteration of Ethiopia’s internationally recognized borders. Eritrea has never, in recorded history, opposed Ethiopia’s legitimate commercial use of regional ports through mutually negotiated arrangements. Landlocked countries throughout the world conduct international commerce through neighboring coastal states without acquiring sovereignty over their territory. In fact, commercial necessity creates opportunities for cooperation among countries; it does not create territorial entitlement".
*"...The overall principle at stake extends far beyond Eritrea. Africa’s interstate order rests on respect for inherited international colonial boundaries, sovereign equality, and territorial integrity. If established borders can be reopened because one country is larger, landlocked, economically ambitious or considers another state’s territory strategically necessary, virtually no African boundary would remain immune from challenge".
*"...Eritrea claims no territory belonging to another state and seeks peaceful, mutually beneficial relations with Ethiopia and all its neighbors. What is not open to negotiation is Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity".
*"...Eritrea’s sovereignty is not a geopolitical bargaining chip. It is an internationally recognized legal right, and the same right upon which the security, sovereignty and territorial integrity of every African nation ultimately depend".

The Weaponization of Victimhood: How Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party Trapped itself in Its Own Regional Expansionist Ploys
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Research and Documentation Division
18 August 2026
*"...For the past three years, the PP has been openly threatening the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbors; questioned the very existence of sovereign states; and, through its collusion with disruptive external actors, systematically contributed to the destabilization of the Horn of Africa. Yet today, it cries foul, manufacturing a narrative of 'encirclement and external conspiracy' to conceal its own crippling domestic shortcomings and regional failures".
*"...the Prosperity Party’s campaign against Eritrea is a naked attempt to externalize a deep-seated domestic crisis and can neither hoodwink its domestic constituency nor the international community".
*"...Eritrea’s sovereignty is not a bargaining chip, nor is it a historical inconvenience to be corrected according to the miscalculations of a reckless neighbor. It is an immutable fact of international law and African political history. Duplicitous attempts of manufacturing a narrative of encirclement by hostile alliances, and portrayal of the primary initiator of regional tensions as the 'the innocent victim' cannot alter that reality".

This harrowing crime amplifies two cardinal issues:
1. Inherent flaws of UNHCR's deplorable Eligibility Guidelines (2011/12) originally designed to promote malicious political agendas of harassment and "strategic depopulation" against Eritrea but whose blanket "asylum procedures" have allowed other nationals to obtain asylum masquerading as "persecuted Eritreans" ; (the estimates vary from 40% to 70% in several European countries).
2. The feckless norms and practices of Legacy Media who routinely misconstrue heinous and repugnant crimes of a deranged immigrant for purposes of stigmatization and racist/xenophobic campaigns against the Global South; (even RT recycled the story of defamation against Eritrea without any modicum of validation).

ETHIOPIA ― Seven Ethiopian distance runners and trainers are reportedly among members of the country’s sporting delegation who have failed to return home after competing at the World Athletics U20 Championships in the United States, raising fresh concerns over defections by Ethiopian athletes while abroad.
According to sources, the group reportedly includes three trainers and four athletes, who competed in events including race walking, the 5,000 metres and the 3,000 metres.
The reported incident would come less than a month after about 20 members of an Ethiopian youth football delegation, aged between 14 and 17, went missing in Gothenburg, Sweden, following the Gothia Cup.

#Eritrea's detractors (እፍሊ ሓንጨመንጪ) have gone completely berserk these days.
This time round, the event that has aroused their irrational tantrums is the nomination, and subsequent appointment, of Eritrea's Charge d'Affaires as Chair-Rapporteur of the 2026 UNHRC Social Forum by the Africa Group.
As it will be recalled, Eritrea's appointment to UNICEF's Executive Board and its recent election to the Vice-Presidency of the 81st UN General Assembly had triggered similar commotion in these feckless groups in the past months.
For two principal reasons: i) any limelight/recognition of Eritrea's voice in the international stage and appreciation of its contributions to multilateral diplomacy pokes a huge hole in their wicked and relentless demonization campaigns; ii) it will ultimately impact on their hefty lobbyists' fees.
As the saying goes: "the camel marches as the dog barks!" - ፈኮስቲ፥ ጃንዳ ርእሲ ኹቦ !
The Potemkin Party’s propaganda machinery is increasingly edgy and seems to spin out of control to miss the whole plot these days.
The telltale signs of this desperate mindset and quagmire are better accentuated by:
- the marathon interviews of its leader in the past ten days with Amhara Media Corporation (AMECO) and Oromo Broadcasting Network (OBN) principally on domestic issues but with frequent provocative digressions on Eritrea;
- the flurry of articles/Tv programmes on Eritrea by the Potemkin Party’s official/affiliated media outlets – Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), FDRE Institute of Foreign Affairs, Horn Review, etc.
PP’s new narrative on domestic issues peddled in the Interviews is naturally an internal matter that has no pertinence to Eritrea. As such, we shall not delve into their substance though we may allude, in passing, to the overwhelming consensus/verdict by most Ethiopian analysts on its dangerously myopic tactical approaches – and double-speak. That the Interviews are maliciously aimed at stigmatizing as well as inciting cleavages and polarization between certain, and especially the Amhara and Tigrayan, ethnic nationalities and intended as desperate appeals for sectarian support from the Oromo ethnic constituency.
In reference to Eritrea, the PP’s manufactured narratives venture into “creative” fantasies and fictious constructs that are grossly at variance with historical facts and events.
In a nutshell, the new “PP linen”, touted for the market, consists of:
1. Preposterous claims of Oromo “expedition” into Eritrea in the distant past to include full occupation of Midri Bahri (Medieval and independent Kingdom in the Highlands and eastern lowlands of present-day Eritrea). For “incontrovertible proof”, the pretentious PP leader invokes a phony conjecture of semantics to speculate “same origins” between Barentu (Eritrea’s capital city of the Gash Barka Region) and Borona in present-day Oromia Region; as well as Soira (the highest mountain in Eritrea), Debra and other numerous names (not explicitly listed in the Interview) in Eritrea with similar sounding places in Oromia etc.
2. These fantasies could have been routinely dismissed as hollow and risible if they were not fraught with tragic consequences.
3. Indeed, what the newly minted narrative signifies is that the malaise/quest for “sovereign port ownership” by invading Eritrean sovereign territory that the PP leader enunciated in October 2023; his previous and outrageous claims that “he could not find legal documents on Eritrean independence in Ethiopian official archives (Cabinet, Parliament etc.)”; subsequent claims on Eritrea’s Dahlak Islands and the southern coastline for reasons of “strategic depth” to “project Ethiopia’s maritime power” etc. have degenerated further towards terminal metastasis.
4. In effect, the Potemkin Party’s revisionist history and toxic agenda have now morphed into full-scale denial of Eritrea’s inalienable status as a sovereign nation. This recent chorus of aggression and war is of course antithetical to the 2018 Eritrea-Ethiopia Friendship Agreement which was anchored on Ethiopia’s full adherence to international law (and EEBC Award) and for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize!
5. Duplicitous and ironic as it is, the Potemkin Party’s agenda of aggression and war are increasingly couched in self-defense terms these days. To this end, Eritrea is constantly portrayed, by the PP’s media outlets, as “innately insecure whose survival depends on perpetual destabilization of Ethiopia”. Eritrea’s independence struggle is denigrated as an “external conspiratorial agenda that was concocted to weaken Ethiopia”.
6. All these transparent ruses are willfully peddled to prepare “historical and legal rationale” for a destructive war. The truth is Eritrea has never had the interest or political design and will to destabilize Ethiopia. The costly and long war of liberation was imposed on Eritrea due to Ethiopia’s expansionist ambitions and annexation in flagrant breach of international law. The border war from 1998-2000 essentially erupted due to the willful desire of the incumbent regime to change the sacrosanct colonial borders in violation of international law, the UN Charter and the AU’s Constitutive Act. The climate of tension and conflict that looms in the Horn of Africa region today is, again, largely a product of the Potemkin Party’s misguided policies of irredentism and hegemony. The illicit MOU that the Potemkin Party signed with Somaliland in 2024; its hosting of military base in southwestern Ethiopia to provide support to the RSF under the bidding of the UAE; and its constant threats and saber-rattling against Eritrea complete the picture of the reckless policies of destabilization to which the Potemkin Party seems wedded to for reasons known to itself.
7. Finally, Eritrea had indeed cultivated networks of support with various Ethiopian liberation movements, including the Oromo Liberation Front, during the armed struggle in 1980s. These were based on common denominators and platforms of opposition to oppression by the incumbent regimes in Ethiopia and recognition of Eritrea’s legitimate rights of decolonization. Even in those times, Eritrea’s principled position on Ethiopia’s unity and territorial integrity were crystal clear and explicitly pronounced; including in its 1984 seminal paper on EPLF ties with Ethiopian Opposition Movements.
