A very detailed study on #MECFS from the NIH group. My take-home points after a quick read:
🧠 MECFS is a brain disorder in keeping with my assertion that #POTS is a CNS disorder.

🧠 Transcranial dopplers in the supine and standing position were not done - a missed opportunity to detect cerebral hypoperfusion in pts. vs controls.
🧠 2-Day CPET was not done - a missed opportunity to detect post-exertional malaise in pts vs. controls
🧠 Autonomic dysfunction in the form of sympathetic overactivity, unrelated to anxiety or depression, is a major underlying mechanism of fatigue in MECFS.
🧠 Immunologic and mitochondrial dysfunctions are among the mechanisms of MECFS.
🧠 Biological sex differences in MECFS exist via distinct metabolic, immunologic and genetic pathways.

Nose breathing for heart health. 🫀
There are claims that nasal-only breathing is superior to mouth breathing.
How does their physiology differ? And does nose breathing really produce beneficial effects on the body?

Thank you to @linseymarr for explaining the effectiveness of masks on @60Minutes Overtime with @DrLaPook. I really wish this segment featured on the full broadcast and not online only though, as the whole country really needs to watch it!
Our noses are amazing organs that have over 30 different functions.
The nose regulates our whole breathing system. It is a filter, an air-conditioner, it helps immune defence against bacteria and viruses, get more oxygen because of NO, and can help to calm the nervous system.
Today marks the start of #OrganDonationWeek, a time to celebrate the gift of life.
To kick things off, hear from Prof Sir Magdi Yacoub reflecting on the first heart and lung transplant operations he conducted 40 years ago 💙

Soon, we will be formally announcing the launch of our new clinic: a center dedicated to recovery from complex chronic illnesses. In this clinic we will treat folks with conditions like #EDS, #LongCOVID, #MECFS and #LongLyme. We were incredibly intentional about the decision 1/
Sometimes the natural rhythm of our breathing can become disrupted, which is known as a breathing pattern disorder (#bpd). What does this actually look like? How can it be treated? Our case study shows how the process works and the difference it can make https://t.co/ObvDb7IYSm
