▪️ On December 27, 2024, Israeli forces arrested Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, from inside the hospital before proceeding to destroy the facility and continue what have been described as war crimes.
▪️ During the months leading up to his arrest, Abu Safiya refused to leave the hospital or abandon his patients and the wounded despite repeated Israeli demands and threats. He continued his humanitarian missions working under bombardment, siege, and with almost no resources available.
▪️ Abu Safiya repeatedly appealed to the international community to keep Israeli forces away from hospitals and patients.
▪️ He remained committed to his duties as a physician despite being injured himself, despite injuries to his son Idris, and despite of killing of his son Ibrahim, whom he buried with his own hands inside the hospital.
▪️ After his son was killed by the Israeli army , Abu Safiya said through tears that they had “burned his heart.” Nevertheless, he remained steadfast and did not leave patients and the wounded alone in the face of guns and tanks.
▪️ Abu Safiya remains in detention and is reportedly being subjected to mistreatment and torture amid a deterioration in his health. He was recently transferred to solitary confinement in Israeli prison , with no communication allowed with him.
Israeli authorities transferred Palestinian doctor Hussam Abu Safiya to solitary confinement in Nafha Prison after his legal team appealed to the Israeli Supreme Court against the extension of his detention, according to his lawyer.
The lawyer said the transfer, carried out by the Israeli Prison Service on June 3, was a punitive measure imposed under harsh conditions and has deprived Abu Safiya of necessary medical treatment.
According to Healthcare Workers Watch (HWW), at least 83 Palestinian healthcare workers are currently detained by Israel, including 75 from the Gaza Strip and eight from the occupied West Bank. The detainees include physicians, medical students, a paramedic, and a nutritionist.
Israeli airstrikes continued across the Gaza Strip despite the ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since October 10, 2025.
Medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital said nine people were killed and dozens wounded, with some victims arriving severely burned or dismembered.
Witnesses reported multiple strikes across Gaza City, including attacks on apartments in the Labad Building, the Al-Israa 1 Building in Tel al-Hawa, a home in Al-Shati refugee camp, and the Al-Ghoul Building in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood.
