Betty Webb worked at Bletchley Park from 1941 - 1945, indexing German messages and later paraphrasing Japanese signals. Speaking on the Official Secrets Act, she said, ‘we were taken individually into the first room on the left as you go into the Mansion and faced by a rather severe looking captain in the Army who had a gun on the table. We were given the Official Secrets Act to read, which is pretty lengthy and frightening. We knew that we had to abide by the rules within it and sign it and not speak about anything outside the four walls for as long as it took.’

In recognition of her service, she was appointed MBE in 2015, and she was awarded the Legion d'honneur in May 2021.
