Punekars,
it’s that time of the year, I am not talking gulabi thandi .. I am referring to varshik NRI pahune mandali visiting us. Here are some namune;
Those who insist on only talking in Marathi when they visit us, it’s their style to show us sanakari (ness), same goes with those who make their (poor) children recite shloks in Sanskrit. As amusing as that sounds those kids are not to be blamed for their parents who badly want some form of shabaski from us for maintaining the “roots”.
Then there are those who will sit on your sofa eat garam-garam kandaa bhaji & tell us how easy our life is given we have house-help. Remember main thing is, our life is easy or hard depends on where they stand. If they are on FC road & can’t cross it “Kase rahata tumhi ithe kathin aahe!?”.. so basically it’s their exclusive right to comment on.
“Indiyat sagala milta” as mahanun you will receive a small ziplock bag of Costco store bought mixed bag of chocolates with dollar store bought gift item.
And because different rules of busyness apply in India you will receive an invite for a midweek dinner at a far away location. An unheard of phenomenon in US/UK/.. but Indiyat chalta!
Kahihi Aso te aplech aahet & some of us (me) were them some years back. So welcome them, ignore their quirks & stand your ground. You have what they don’t, Vaishali, Chitale Bandhu, ..and most importantly No daylight savings time adjustment:)..
PS. If you have read so far, you have time to read last line. This is not for all NRI’s ok.
