Full intern involvement in surgical handover was associated with faster responses to clinical queries and improved recall from handover, highlighting the value of actively involving interns in the handover process. @RCSI_Irl@MPS_Medical
We also explored the patient perspective in our handover research, identified outcomes important to patients, families and carers, and surveyed surgical patients across two teaching hospitals to understand awareness and perceptions of handover.@RCSI_Irl@MPS_Medical
We identified a lack of formal training in surgical handover, developed an education ‘blueprint’ to support handover training, and piloted a simulation-based programme that improved interns’ confidence in delivering and receiving handover. @RCSI_Irl@MPS_Medical#MedicalEducation
Our systematic review found significant variation in the outcomes used and reported in surgical handover research. This led us to begin developing a Core Outcome Set to standardise outcome reporting in this area.@RCSI_Irl@MPS_Medical
