"Few activities are as cognitively demanding as writing"
So many things going on during writing tasks. Thinking of ideas, organizing, planning, thinking of letters, sounds, conventions of print, fine motor development, executive function! #keylearning#ETFOsa2019
3 words to help run an effective program - consistent, reliable, predictable. Be consistent in how you teach and reinforce expectations. Be reliable in how you respond to students and their needs. Be predictable with routines, expectations, and day to day items. #ETFOsa2019
Changing thinking about how we deliver our literacy programming. Why is that child practising that skill right now? What needs are we meeting for each child? #whydaily5#whythisforthischild#ETFOsa2019
K-1 educators are spending their first day of summer with @tstarr_teacher @teachtopper@mstewart_edu exploring how to plan and support students using learning centres/areas, connecting to HWDSB Reading docs. Thanks for dedicating your time! ๐@RSHWDSB@maryanne_gage @bill_torrens
Hope everyone is enjoying their first day of summer! I'm kicking mine off with some professional development! It's always exciting to learn something new!
O and F are "plussing", or adding as I reminded them ๐. M demonstrated a counting on strategy for figuring out 7+8. "That's 15! 9,10,11,12,13,14,15!" O used his fingers to add 2+7, and F is trying to stump them with big numbers! #HWDSBkinder@SIBhwdsb#math#additionstrategies
We are trying to be more intentional with materials and how we use them. First, the boys just had the bears all over the table. By adding dice, they began working on addition, and comparing how had more, and it became a game! #HWDSBkinder#math#games@SIBhwdsb
With some friends on vacation to different parts of the world, our students began to wonder, "where is China?" and " where is Pakistan?". Mrs. Fyfe brought in a world map and the students began talking about where their families are from!
