On this day in 1886, Rev. Henry Behrens, SJ of the Buffalo Mission of the German Province of Jesuits, reached an agreement w/ Bishop Richard Gilmour to open a college on the west side of Cleveland. 5 months later, St. Ignatius College opened to classes.
